i know "The Fascinating Woman" is a religious book, but i remember hearing about it years ago from people who were not religious in the least, saying that it has some respectable ideas about being submissive.  Has anyone here heard of it, or read it? Is there a non lifestyle book that has helped you in your journey?

i haven't read this, but would like to :)

i know that many people a while back on this site were mentioning the book "the shadow dance," which i picked up based solely on its mention here and haven't really had a chance to look at in depth yet...however, it does seem really interesting.

I haven't gottent to read it yet but I have read The Surrendered Wife, which I enjoyed. Fascination Womanhood is on my list of summer books (ah summer by the lake reading. Sorry I have warmth on the brain it's so cold tonight) I'm a religious individual so I enjoyed it very much. I have anothr one I would suggest,  I can't remember the title right off and am not going to look for it right now but I'll post it next time, that isn't religious or alt based but still encourages a Male/female D/s dynamic for happiness.

i've heard about The Surrendered Wife too! i am glad you mentioned it!

i've not heard of The Shadow Dance, but i would love to hear your thoughts about it after you read it....

i've heard about it and read it; was given it when i was in high school, dating the son of a church of latter day saints (mormon) mother. it was interesting.

The surrendered wife is the best vanilla story of a truly submissive service oriented woman I've read. A wonderful book indeed.
The cornerstone and first book I read about this lifestyle was Different Loving.
I think any and every person in this life should take the time to read this book.
I was extremely lucky to have my favorite book in the 30 or so I've read in the past two years be my first.

Its funny you should mention Different Loving, that too was the first M/s type book I had read, before that I was focused on the physical aspects of wiitwd. (the BDSM part) It really opened my eyes to all the different expressions that fall into this alt world.
The name of that vanilla book I couldn't remember last night was, The Total Woman by Marabel Morgan.

I love Different Loving, and I sometimes flip through it again just for basic info. Dr. Brame's " Come Hither" was the first bdsm book I bought though. It's pretty cool. More practical then scholarly, and it has cute little kink quizzes in it. =)

I read those books when I was in high school - LOL. The local library had them. I always wanted a man to look up to. I always wanted to be a devoted woman, a loving female to a protective strong man.

Isn't it ODD that today -- it is a kink?

The Shadow Dance is a book about working with your Shadow, a Jungian concept of all things hidden in your personality/psyche. Most of us assume that we keep all the negative things hidden, like the desire to steal, cheat, sin, etc.etc. We usually feel that all of these things SHOULD be hidden. However, the Shadow actually contains all those things that we deny and could be hiding positive things about ourselves: our creativity, our positive sence of self worth, our ability to express ourselves, etc. etc. Working with the Shadow means that you are willing to confront that which is hidden, look at it, acknowledge it and then incorporate it into your Self in the proper manner.

I read the "Fascinating Woman" book back when I was engaged to be married. Screwed up my marriage. For what it's worth, the author was divorced shortly after the book came out.

Sometimes an idea is great in print but doesn't work so well in real life. If you don't have the exact right mix of personalities things don't always work out the way you wish.

Just my thoughts....

sublizzie, you made a great point. It really is a chemistry balance that spells success... i think. i like having as much as possible available to me, and books full of ideas are tools if i use them properly. The salient point being that every person will not have the same affect from a theory.

ahem... speaking of good books, MasterFireMaam... may i ask.... do we have any important dates in the near future?

The first 'lifestyle' book I bought was "Erotic Surrender, The Sensual Joys of Female Submission" by Claudia Varrin. 

I definitely recommend it and I need to go back and read it again myself.
