ORIGINAL: Sternhand4 You know the answer to your question. From the article... Farai Chideya asked three prominent black guests whether, in fact, blacks can be blamed for hate crimes at all. ( bold added) Said Chideya: “. . . some people say black folks cannot be racist because the root of the issue is power. Yes, and some people say the moon is made of cheese, too, but that certainly doesn't make it true. It always blows my mind when people say any group/person cannot be racist because they have no power. YET....most people you could ask would spout out the stereotype that THE most racist people are poor, backwoods, Southern rednecks. Where is THEIR power? You cannot have it both ways. The only group it is still politically correct to make fun of is rednecks and a big part of what is made fun of about them is their supposed ignorance and their racism. Yet, they have no real power economically, etc. so HOW could they be racist according to that standard? So what do you make of this crime where you’ve got 12- to 17-year-olds and, you know, black people attacking whites? Is this a traditional hate crime? Should it be prosecuted as such? People in the community are kind of divided about that.” Yes, it's a "traditional" hate crime that should be prosecuted as such and the fact that people are divided about it is, to me, ludicrous. When you doubt whether its a hate crime because its black on white then you have exposed the double standard. Amen to that. When whites who hate blacks commit violent crimes against them solely because of their race, that's considered a "hate"crime because it IS. Yet when blacks commit the same types of violent crimes against whites because they hate them, it's different? And this is because of this imaginary perception that ALL whites have power and NO blacks do? Puhleez. The poor whites living in the trailer park are just as powerless (if not more so) than the poor blacks down in the projects. To believe otherwise is really naive and to treat the same types of crimes differently because of this misguided belief is an atrocious travesty of justice.......JMHO, slave luci Yup, just more "political correctness" run amok. We really do need to outlaw "political correctness." I can see vigilance committees making a comeback in this country. If the police and courts won't protect the people The People have the right to defend themselves.
