quote:

ORIGINAL: domiguy

I shot a man in Reno just to watch him die.

Stephan I was in a bar,big surprise, and on the juke box someone did a rousing rendition of "Simple Man."
Might consider adding to your arsenal.

Well, I'll be!  Simple Man's not a tune I usually play for the crowd, but one I loved to play for my girl... erm...back...when I had one.  It's a great tune, and easy to play.  A similar sounding tune is 'House of the Rising Sun' by the Animals, and a much more well known 'forgotten' song.

dorei, I'll see if I can't post them tomorrow.

KatyLied -> RE: forgotten songs (3/14/2007 9:30:56 AM)

Every morning when I wake, a feeling soon begins to overtake me.
Ringing in my ears resounds through my brain; it finally surrounds me.
There is fire, there is life, there is passion, fever and fury.
There is love and there is hate, there is longing, anger and worry.

Ah, I forgot how much I love this song, heard it while running some errands today.

"Sun goes down Rhythm hits
Oh it's just the start of it
Before you know it, we're all on the move
Down to the local water hole
Drink until we lose control
Let the drum beat on, Let the show begin

That's the way it's always been yeah yeah
Primitive Love Rites
Turn on your love lights
Just let them burn bright yeah yeah yeah
Until two body's meet
Primitive Love Rites
This is our love night
Baby just hold tight
Until the ritual's complete

Wild as(s) you got the wild hair, Wild clothes you make the men stare
Move it up there like a rhythm machine
Yeah, turn it up and turn it on, the ceremony has begun
Won't stop until we hear that final scream

That's the way it's always been yeah yeah
Primitive Love Rites
Turn on your love lights
Just let them burn bright yeah yeah yeah
Until two body's meet
Primitive Love Rites
This is our love night
Baby just hold tight yeah yeah yeah
Until the ritual's complete

All along the asphalt jungle track,
Two by two they stagger back
Full moon shines on a crazy scene
Yes, another night has bit the dust
And we have done the things we must
Now lay me down and let me help you dream

Well, That's the way it's always been yeah yeah
Primitive Love Rites
Turn on your love lights
Just let them burn bright yeah yeah yeah
Until two body's meet
Primitive Love Rites
This is our love night
Baby just hold tight yeah yeah yeah
Until the ritual's complete
Primitive Love Rites
Turn on your love lights
Just let them burn bright yeah yeah yeah
Until two body's meet
Primitive Love Rites
This is our love night
Baby just hold tight yeah yeah yeah
Until the ritual's complete"

"Predominantly percussive prone, she's basically bereft
Of any sense of melody it's the beat that she likes best.
Trying to keep a straight face while the singer shakes his ass
She's wondering if it's natural or he learned to be that crass

But if it's got beat - and you can dance
If it's got beat - beat me
But if it's got beat - and you can dance
If it's got beat - beat me
Into submission

Standing on the dance floor like some tribal cinderella
She ain't looking for a woman, she ain't lookin' for a fella
If the music keeps on playing she'll be dancing till she dies
But the clown that's playing D.J. doesn't seem to realise...

That if it's got beat - and you can dance
If it's got beat - beat me
But if it's got beat - and you can dance
If it's got beat - beat me
Into submission

Well it all amounts to nothing all the words in all the songs
if the rhythm doesn't make it, then everything is wrong!

If it's got beat - and you can dance
If it's got beat - beat me
But if it's got beat - and you can dance
If it's got beat - beat me
Into submission"

I was just listening to The Highwayman which Loreena McKennitt set to music. I knew it as the poem by Alfred Noyes first...so dramatic.

(some great lyrics, not particulary forgotten songs though)

Time - Pink Floyd

Ticking away the moments that make up a dull day
You fritter and waste the hours in an offhand way
Kicking around on a piece of ground in your home town
Waiting for someone or something to show you the way

Tired of lying in the sunshine staying home to watch the rain
You are young and life is long and there is time to kill today
And then one day you find ten years have got behind you
No one told you when to run, you missed the starting gun

And you run and you run to catch up with the sun, but it's sinking
And racing around to come up behind you again
The sun is the same in a relative way, but you're older
Shorter of breath and one day closer to death

Every year is getting shorter, never seem to find the time
Plans that either come to naught or half a page of scribbled lines
Hanging on in quiet desperation is the English way
The time has gone, the song is over, thought I'd something more to say

BREATHE REPRISE
Home, home again
I like to be here when I can
When I come home cold and tired
It’s good to warm my bones beside the fire
Far away across the field
The tolling of the iron bell
Calls the faithful to their knees
To hear the softly spoken magic spells.

Late for the Sky - Jackson Browne

*Now* the words had all been spoken
And somehow the feeling still wasn't right
And still we continued on through the night
Tracing our steps from the beginning
Until they vanished into the air
Trying to understand how our lives *had* led us there

Looking hard into your eyes
There was nobody I'd ever known
Such an empty surprise to feel so alone

Now for me some words come easy
But I know that they don't mean that much
Compared with the things that are said when lovers touch
You never knew what I loved in you
I don't know what you loved in me
Maybe the picture of somebody you were hoping I might be

Awake again I can't pretend and I know I'm alone
And close to the end of the feeling we've known

How long have I been sleeping
How long have I been drifting alone through the night
How long have I been dreaming I could make it right
If I closed my eyes and tried with all my might
To be the one you need

Awake again I can't pretend and I know I'm alone
And close to the end of the feeling we've known

How long have I been sleeping
How long have I been drifting alone through the night
How long have I been running for that morning flight
Through the whispered promises and the changing light
Of the bed where we both lie
Late for the sky

Keep on Growing - Derick and the Dominoes

I was laughing,
Playing in the streets, I was unknowing;
I didn't know my fate.
Playing
The game of love, but never really showing;
I thought that love could wait.

I was a young man and sure to go astray.
You walked right into my life and told me love would find a way
To keep on growing, keep on growing, keep on growing.

I was standing,
Looking in the face of one who loved me,
Feeling so ashamed.
Hoping,
And praying, Lord, that she could understand me,
But I didn't know her name.

She took my hand in hers and told me I was wrong.
She said, you're gonna be all right boy, oh just as long
As you keep on growing, keep on growing, keep on growing. Yeah, yeah, yeah.

Maybe,
Someday baby, who knows where or when, Lord,
Just you wait and see.
We'll be walking,
Together hand in hand, alone forever;
Woman just you and me.

'Cause time is gonna change us, Lord, and I know it's true;
Our love is gonna keep on glowing and growing and it's all we gotta do.
Keep on growing, keep on growing, keep on growing. Yeah, yeah, yeah.

Keep on growing, keep on growing, keep on growing

Sugar Magnolia - The Grateful Dead ( i'm not a dead head, i just loved one )

Sugar magnolia, blossoms blooming, heads all empty and I dont care,
Saw my baby down by the river, knew shed have to come up soon for air.

Sweet blossom come on, under the willow, we can have high times if youll abide
We can discover the wonders of nature, rolling in the rushes down by the riverside.

Shes got everything delightful, shes got everything I need,
Takes the wheel when Im seeing double, pays my ticket when I speed

She comes skimmin through rays of violet, she can wade in a drop of dew,
She dont come and I dont follow, waits backstage while I sing to you.

Well, she can dance a cajun rhythm, jump like a willys in four wheel drive.
Shes a summer love for spring, fall and winter. she can make happy any man alive.

Sugar magnolia, ringing that bluebell, caught up in sunlight, come on out singing
Ill walk you in the sunshine, come on honey, come along with me.

Shes got everything delightful, shes got everything I need,
A breeze in the pines and the sun and bright moonlight, lazing in the sunshine yes
Indeed.

Sometimes when the cuckoos crying, when the moon is half way down,
Sometimes when the night is dying, I take me out and I wander around, I wander
round.

Sunshine, daydream, walking in the tall trees, going where the wind goes
Blooming like a red rose, breathing more freely,
Ride our singin, Ill walk you in the morning sunshine
Sunshine, daydream. sunshine, daydream. walking in the sunshine.

St. Teresa, by Joan Osborne

You called up in the sky
You called up in the clouds
Is there something you forgot to tell me...
tell me, tell me, tell me, tell me, tell me
Show me my Teresa, feel it rise in me
Every stone a story, like a rosary

Johnny Horton, The battle of new orleans

In eighteen-fourteen we took a little trip
Along with Colonel Jackson down the might Mississipp'
We took a little bacon and we took a little beans
And we caught the bloody British in the town of New Orleans

We fired our guns and the British kept a comin'
There wasn't nigh as many as there was a while ago
We fired once more and they began to runnin'
On down the Mississippi to the Gulf of Mexico

We looked down the river and we seed the British come
And there must've been a hundred of 'em beatin' on the drum
They stepped so high and they made their bugles ring
We stood beside our cotton bales, didn't say a thing

We fired our guns and the British kept a comin'
There wasn't nigh as many as there was a while ago
We fired once more and they began to runnin'
On down the Mississippi to the Gulf of Mexico

Old Hickory said we could take 'em by surprise
If we didn't fire muskets till we looked 'em in the eye
We held our fire till we seed their faces well
Then we opened up our squirrel guns and really gave 'em well.........

We fired our guns and the British kept a comin'
There wasn't nigh as many as there was a while ago
We fired once more and they began to runnin'
On down the Mississippi to the Gulf of Mexico

Yeah they ran through the briars and they ran through the brambles
And they ran through the bushes where a rabbit couldn't go
They ran so fast that the hounds couldn't catch 'em
On down the Mississippi to the Gulf of Mexico

We fired our cannon till the barrel melted down
So we grabbed an alligator and we fought another round
We filled his head with cannonballs and powdered his behind
And when we touched the powder off the 'gator lost his mind

We fired our guns and the British kept a comin'
There wasn't nigh as many as there was a while ago
We fired once more and they began to runnin'
On down the Mississippi to the Gulf of Mexico

I used to love that song.....drove mom crazy cause i'd sing it for hours in the car on long trips

Level -> RE: forgotten songs (6/30/2007 8:02:11 AM)

quote:

ORIGINAL: Tarisa

I haven't heard Pat Benetar in awhile...Used to love her songs . . .

My favorite Benatar song:

Promises In The Dark

Never again, isn't that what you said?
You've been through this before
An' you swore this time you'd think with your head
No one, would ever have you again
And if takin' was gonna get done
You'd decide where and when
Just when you think you got it down
Your heart securely tied and bound
They whisper, Promises In The Dark

Armed and ready, you fought love battles in the night
But too many opponents made you weary of the fight
Blinded by passion, you foolishly let someone in
All the warnings went off in your head
Still you had to give in

Just when you think you got it down
Resistance nowhere to be found
They whisper, Promises In The Dark

But promises, you know what they're for
It sounds so convincing, but you heard it before
Cause talk is cheap and you gotta be sure
And so you put up your guard
And you try to be hard
But your heart says try again

You desperately search for a way to conquer the fear
No line of attack has been planned to fight back the tears
Where brave and restless dreams are both won and lost
On the edge is where it seems it's well worth the cost
Just when you think you got it down
Your heart in pieces on the ground
They whisper, Promises In The -- Dark
