It's pretty clear that what's going on in the middle east is about oil and money. The terrorists on 9/11 were saudis, but Busch won't go after them will he. And also by not doing so, our gov guarantees there will always be a "war on terror'. Ater all you can't kill the snake if you don't take off the head...........

My conclusion now about the middle east, is it is not our actual intent to "fix" it, or make it stable. But rather to make it unstable.

Why? Because an unstable middle east is a middle east that will never grow to a level of education, economic stability, and industrial base, to shake off the foreign interests. A stable peaceful prosperous middle east, would mean a end to siphoning of cheap oil. As long as the region is in conflict and a general state of militarization, little progress will occur, and the west is insured that they will sell the only resource they have, oil in exchange for arms, and luxuries.

It seems a smart move if one's objective is to secure "oil" above all else. Why conquer when you can just keep it fucked up? Conquering as a permanent affair would require huge near permanent cash flows. So, Fuck up Iraq. Then fuck up Iran. Then you try to pull the Saudi's down.

Why? Because if your goal is oil, Friends don't really matter. What matters is having countries with oil, that can't support themselves by any other means but selling oil, and you encourage that state by inciting war, or a perpetual state of militization. It does the West in general, absolutely no good to have a middle east that doesn't need to sell oil to survive.

So, keep them fighting until the well runs dry.

That is my current view of why, we are doing what we do. And by we I mean most of the supposed  "civilized" nations.

This is a very typical leftist argument, but it is a wrong one...

If an airliner is hijacked by a bunch of Neo-Nazis from Europe and they crash it into a building....that means that we should invade Europe?

I'm no fan of the Saudi's trust me....but the Saudi government had nothing to do with the 9/11 attacks. But you advocate that we should have went to war with them? Many of the high ranking members of Al-Queda were expelled and deported by the Saudis. President Clinton refused an offer by the Saudis to capture and hand over Bin Ladin in the mid-1990s. The Taliban in Afghanistan then gave him a safe harbor. The rest is history.

Iraq was not attacked for it's supply of oil.  It was attacked to prevent them from asserting dominance and threatening neighboring countries that are US friendly and do have oil.

If Kuwait was not a US friendly country that had oil, there is not a hope in hell that the US would have intervened to begin with.

Did the Iraqi government have anything to do with them either?

<fast reply>

To be honest, I have no earthly idea why we invaded Iraq. Never have.

I disagree.

I think Iraq was invaded because Hussein refused to enter into an agreement with the United States (similar to the one we have with the Saudis) to force them to sell their oil for US currency.

Bush is currently picking a fight with Venezuala for the same reason.

The OilEuro hypothesis? I've always liked that one.
