I was just reading about this in The Guardian and an opinion given for his admission is to prepare the ground for a crack at the 2008 elections - all skeletons out of the closet so to speak.

He was quoted as saying this in The Guardian:

There are times when I have fallen short of my own standards. There's certainly times when I've fallen short of God's standards.

So, he's invoking an invisible non-specific deity to garner a spot of sympathy. For fucks sake.

Clinton was not impeached for his relationship with Lewinsky. He was impeached because he went before a court of law and lied about it, coerced others to lie, and obstructed a federal investigation.
Newt had an affair, but he didnt break any law covering it up.

Same thing with Nixon, it wasn't the actual crime that he got burned for....it was the cover-up.

This was a thing rumored about (and more) for years in GA during both his divorces but especially during his impeachment of Clinton and was a big factor in his divorce from Marianne. I was suprised to see the article since I could have sworn he did some sort of public confession in regard to this several years ago during the divorce when the original accusations were being made. I'll have to go back into my AJC archives and see if I can find the article I'm remembering.

I think that when Clinton looked into the camera and *lied to the American People* that was worse than the purjery under oath.
It was quite funny though when that newscaster hinted around about Monica Lewinsky in a one on one interview (Was that Mc Neil or Lehrer?) and Clinton bursted out with ; "I DIDN'T DO IT! I DIDN'T DO IT!"

I admire Newt's balls. He impeaches Clinton for getting a blowjob while having an affair of his own, and he also rose to prominence for calling out then Speaker Jim Wright for being crooked because of a lucrative book deal, and then he got his own lucrative book deal when he became speaker.

Clinton was impeached for Perjury ( he was later disbarred for this ) and Obstruction of justice.
Only the left portrays it as an impeachment for his quest for sex

Popeye, he should never have been forced into a situation where he had to defend a private matter in public. Would you have risked your job as one of the most powerful men in the world by being honest over a trivial matter? 99% wouldn't.

Ask yourself this question..
As president of the United States, you have an affair, and you know that because of your enemy's, your going to have to answer a lot of embarrassing questions.
Would you go on national television to specifically refute this?? He initiated the interview.
It shows a level of deceit that is staggering.
He knew the truth would come out. he just didn't care.

As a matter of statecraft, how could any other country look him in the eye and believe him?

He perjured himself defending against a sexual harassment claim. Not because republicans wanted to get him for sex. It's amazing how the same liberals that went after and tried to destroy Clarance Thomas for unsubstantiated sexual harassment claims from Anita Hill now say that in regard to clinton it's a "private sexual matter" that he had a *right* to lie about. It's funny you never here the name Paula Jones very often. It wasn't and never was about Monica practicing cigar insertion or orally servicing that embarassment of a human being.

What are you saying, then? the other one would have lied about it under impeachment (based on the fact he didn't volunteer it elsewhere), which renders Clinton's "crime" of lying about getting his cocked sucked meaningless. Best to forget it then and concentrate on the merits, or limitations, of his politics.

I'm from another country and the perception is that Clinton has far more going for him than the current lot.

For those who do not see the hypocrisy of this all I can say is that blind loyalty to politicians really amuses me. I do not like Clinton or NewtyBoy, but say what you will about Clinton, he never divorced his wife while she was dying in a hospital of cancer to replace her with the ho he was banging....

that you can not put of a legitimate post concerning hypocrisy in the Republican party without someone of that party trying to make everything in the universe about evil evil Bill Clinton.
