Wow, is it really bad that I am only aware of most of these because of the special on VH1?

<laughing> Oh yes, definately a child of the 80's. I still mourn the loss of my 80's hairdo. Do you think those styles will ever come back? Afterall...bell bottoms did and so did polyester!

Better still...

why bother letting pop culture, genrational peer pressure or every maufactured pop trend define what you are?

Just a thought.

Because shared memories are fun, and like it or not we live in a fairly consumer culture.

It isn't pressure to be something. It's identification of the same childhood icons.

You like to kill other people's fun, don't you.

No..not at all..whatever floats your boat.

Truth to tell..even though I was born in 1971..I identify more with those who went through the 60's more
than my own generation. I probably listen to more late 60's music than anything.

I hated growing up in the Reagan 80's.

My problem is..I don't belong ANYWHERE.

I just view things differently..and i'm DEMONIZED for it.

I'm used to it. No big deal.

I will not stop.

As the character TRINITY in the series "the Matrix" once said..."the MATRIX cannot tell you who you are".

My absolute favorite song in the world is 1985 by Bowling for Soup. It's like I love the 80's but in a song. Plus it's the year I was born!
Enjoy:
*1985*

"Debbie just hit the wall, she never had it all
One Prozac a day, husband's a CPA
Her dreams went out the door
When she turned twenty-four
Only been with one man
What happened to her plan

She was gonna be an actress
She was gonna be a star
She was gonna shake her ass
On the hood of White Snake's car
Her yellow SUV is now the enemy
Looks at her average life
And nothing has been alright

Since Bruce Springsteen, Madonna
Way before Nirvana
There was U2 and Blondie
And music still on MTV
Her two kids in high school
They tell her that she's uncool
Cause she's still preoccupied
With 19, 19, 1985

Woohoohoo
(1985)
Woohoohoo

She's seen all the classics, she knows every line
'Breakfast Club', 'Pretty in Pink'
Even 'St. Elmo's Fire'
She rocked out to Wham!
Not a big Limp Bizkit fan
Thought she'd get a hand
On a member of Duran Duran

Where's the mini-skirt made of snake skin
And who's the other guy that's singing in Van Halen
When did reality become TV
Whatever happened to sitcoms, game shows
On the radio was

Springsteen, Madonna
Way before Nirvana
There was U2 and Blondie
And music still on MTV
Her two kids in high school
They tell her that she's uncool
Cause she's still preoccupied
With 19, 19, 1985

Woohoohoo

She hates time, make it stop
When did Motley Crue become classic rock
And when did Ozzy become an actor
Please make this stop, stop
Stop, and bring back

Springsteen, Madonna
Way before Nirvana
There was U2 and Blondie
And music still on MTV
Her two kids in high school
They tell her that she's uncool
Cause she's still preoccupied
With 1985

Springsteen, Madonna
Way before Nirvana
There was U2 and Blondie
And music still on MTV
Her two kids in high school
They tell her that she’s uncool
Cause she's still preoccupied
With 19, 19, 1985"

speaking of songs, this thread made me think of this one.

This one is by Something Corporate

Babies of the 80's

I grew up on five-alive
And transformers and slip-n-slide
Toy's R Us and Chuck-e-Cheeze
Disco out and techno in
to synthesize my favorite sin
And here I am on my knees
To get it back again

Babies of the 80's
Little girls in lycra shorts
Tented beds, nerf contact sports
My babies of the 80's
Shout it out just one more time
For the generation that was all mine

We learned to crawl on linoleum floors
Ronald Regan fought Star Wars
But he'll never be Han Solo
Students march Tienemen Square
They took him out hey that's not fair
Dad said it's good to be free
As we watched from our T.V.

*chorus*

We watched the wall fall down
Woke up early for Bozo the clown
MTV and Nick at Night
And I slept for the first time
Without the light

My Babies of the 80's
Little girls in jelly shoes
got the ferris bueller blues
My babies of the 80's
yes we could be something after all
Who Knew

Joico Ice Mist Spray...had to lmao on that one....i use to pile it on high!! lol...had the bangs coming down on my forehead and the spikes a mile high! the higher the better! then let's not forget the wings on each side! lmao! the dark charcoal black eye liner cleopatra style lol...the neon pumps with the lil half folded socks, of course, the big madonna wannabe bow on the head lol...
Remember , New Edition (mr. telephone man, is something wrong with my line? when i dial my baby's number i get a click every time) lol .. "Menudo", Purple Rain, Police Academy (Mooove it mooove it mooove it!) ..Back to the Future.. Cats... Cheech & Chong... Urban Cowboy..

i'll always love the 80's.... the goofy funny movies like Air Plane and National Lampoons Vacation....the real cheesy love songs like "Open Arms", or those slow songs by Chicago... the motivational "you can do or be anything! reach for the stars!" type movies like Karate Kid, Flash Dance, Foot Loose,... There was no such thing as "political correctness", people enjoyed living well, there was so much elegance and glamour...over the top glamour even lol ... i think that movie, i believe it was called Boogie Nights with Mark Wahlberg and Burt Reynolds, captured the essence of the 80's sooooo well! i think the movie represents the late 70's and early 80's, if i remember correctly, but it just really took me back to the day! lmao .... the excitement, danger, abundance, that vibe of anything is possible energy that was so alive in the 80's... the 70's i don't remember quite as much because i was born in 74, the 90's had it's moments....but in IMO, the 80's Rocked! lol

hair bands!!! i've definitely got a thing for guys with long hair - even if it was usually a poofy, teased-out, permed mullet. i was so disappointed when so many of those guys cut their hair...

i got into the hair bands in the late 80's early 90's... we'd go to every rock concert in town, Skid Row, Poison, Inxs, Kiss, Aerosmith (still is my favorite), Guns n' Roses, Bon Jovi, etc... i use to just looooove those sappy rock ballads! i'll admit, i still do
