The "atheists in foxholes" line just reminds us how easily fear will make us believe the absurd, even if it can do us no good.

And if they really wanted to go there, it's easily pointed out that having religious beliefs are no guarantee of good, solid ethics, anyway.

A great book on this subject is "The Science of Good and Evil" by Michael Shermer. Check it out. =)

There's also the strong atheist: There is absolutely no god, no gods, period.

And the weak atheist: I'll assume there is no god until hard evidence proves otherwise
