Status: offline 		Now in my recycle bin is groove.32x. Norton found it as an "ad-ware" threat but could not delete it. Spybot didn't notice it. Adaware has not been update in months and was not even tried.

I don't know if I picked it up at NFL.com, ESPN.com, here, or one of the thousands of porno site I've been to, but I'm guessing it tracks my perversions in case I forget.<cymbals crash>

Anyway, I was surprised it got missed by some programs.

That is why I use three different programs... the spyware makers are always trying to outwit their opponents.

Have you tried Microsoft's free beta of a spyware blocker? I have been using it for over a month and it works smoothly with the Firefox browser. My only complaint with it is that when I used Internet Explorer once, it automatically gave permission for the Yahoo toolbar to be installed. But, thankfully, I rarely use IE.

If you are interested in the Microsoft beta, you can download it from their website. But you will need to have Windows XP in order to use it.

Status: offline 		I just tried Spyware Doctor and Spyware Blaster; you can find them on this page along with others..

Spyware Blaster is supposed to keep that stuff from even getting on your computer, so since I just installed it I don't know how well it works. Spyware Doctor found 9 things that Spybot S&D and AdAware (with the latest updates which you've said aren't very new) both missed. However, I just checked Spybot and found that it wasn't even looking for some of these -- I had to go under advanced settings to enable it to look for them.

Something else I really like is this free web based virus killer. One note: it didn't work when I tried starting it from Netscape, but it works fine using IE. Haven't tried it yet with Firefox.

Status: offline 		It won't work in Firefox because it works via an ActiveX control and Firefox, in their infinite wisdom, does not support ActiveX controls.

Status: offline 		I don't know how many of you guys use AIM, but there's a trojan horse virus floating around through it that I think I may have picked up. It's spread through AIM, so no one here has to worry. Basically if you are viewing someone's profile on AIM and it says, "I can't believe I found (your screenname)'s picture here Hahaha" do NOT click on the link. It'll spread the virus to your computer, and in a few days your profile will change to that message too. It downloads a ton of spyware and crap to your computer. Just a heads up for AIM users!

Thanks for the warning. I use AIM a lot and look at profiles.

Status: offline 		hello, ad-ware and spy-ware is annoing at best but can crippel your pc.
ive been hijacked and burdend with cookies and ware. whenever i went online i was redirected to a site ive never heard about, and would never use. ive tried Many!!! diffrent programs, but they never work.

but that is alllll forgotten, im "clean" :)) i was recommende SpySweeper. on my 1st sweep it found 20mb of unwanted files, cookies and ware, and it restored my homepage to whatever i want. It is however not a freeware, it costs 30$ for a year protection.

i hope this helps :)

Status: offline 		On explorer there is a internet options pull down menu. Go into it and the first tab that SHOULD show up is homepage, simply change your homepage to whatever you want.

I do, but when I close explorer and re open, always goes back to about.com, and whatever site/drug they want me to look at in the toolbar... M

If you don't want to wait for a home page to load just change your homepage to "about:blank" without the quotes. You get a blank page but can then go anywhere you want.
