No one says you shouldn't feel what you feel... It would be nice if you would extend the same courtesy to people who disagree with your position. M

Umm...

I did NOT tell anyone how to feel Madame!!!!

I merely posted MY OPINION on this situation which obviously did not resonate with
certain persons belief systems.

That's fine with me...so much the better.

I have NO PROBLEM being a "minority". (Crossdresser, Conspiracy theorist, et al.)
or whatever other LABEL "normal" people wish to give me.

As far as "courtesy" is concerned..what do you suggest? Shutting up?

LOL, don't knock shutting up sometimes; my father used to say that sometimes that is the best response.
What I meant is that while you were saying "don't tell me how to feel", you were shouting to everyone else (especially dissenters it seems) come on and place your politically incorrect views, and whoever doesn't like it...

We are all adults, and to the extent possible try not to deliberaly yank each others' chains. This is a sensitive subject, and just as you're very seriously committed to having religion out of your life, some of us are seriously committed to our faith. We won't call you names, and preferably when uncalled for you won't call our closest image to God names... I hope that's fair with you. M

Who said I was "seriously committed to having religion out of my life"?

I am a Unified Field Theorist (the belief that everything is connected). I get blasted for my beliefs all the time.
I just brush it off my shoulders like a bad case of dandruff. No biggie.

The Catholic Pope (in my opinion) did not have a closer line to God than anyone else did. ONLY GOD could make that descision.

IMHO.

At Mass i kneel and stand side by side with my fellow Catholics, some of whom would no doubt be appalled by what i am and what i do with my masters in private, and i might feel appalled by some of their "lifestyle choices" too. But we are not there to judge one another; that is for God. We treat one other with respect, we shake hands and give one other the gift of peace. We share Communion, whatever our private opinions of each other's sins. So i join the plea here for a little peace and respect today for the soul of John Paul II.

Like you Siamsa, he was the only Pope i have ever known; i was about 3 when he became Pope. Like most American Catholics, my obedience to the Vatican was less than absolute: i submit spiritually to Christ; i am owned by men whose rule over my life is much more immediate and absolute than the Holy Father's ever could be; i obey my faith and my owners' rules, which only partly agree with those of the Church, but which are indistinguishable from my faith; my faith and my enslavement are drawn from one and the same need, a need so deep within me i consider it my calling. No doubt Pope John Paul II would have found me an imperfect Catholic, and i quite agree; yet i am what God made me and what i have no choice but to be, as little as i am. He too was what God made him, and he was a great man, a man i loved and admired and was proud to know as my Pope. i too am saddened by his death, but i am glad to have shared his faith and his time on earth, and i was pleased that his death was relatively swift and peaceful. My prayers are with him in Heaven.

That is beautiful ravenna and very well put. You have touched me with your words and I agree with you.
I only wish that all Catholics (and Christians in general) were as open and understanding as you, maybe we would have less problems within the church.

I do not disagree that the church may need to make some changes, however, would it be possible to place this discussion in another thread and leave this one for people to remember the Pope?

The Pope had a full life and worked up until the day he died. He was highly respected by the majority of the world even if they were not Catholic. He is on display now (normal protocol), but he looks very peaceful and I am sure he is.

i am not catholic, however, i admire Pope John Paul II for being such a brilliant man, such a kind human being who inspired many and devoted his life to serve God and the people... I believe a man such as that is worthy of respect and admiration.

may he forever rest in peace.

The Poles and others who were under the Soviet boot are grateful to him, and for good reason. That's not important to you?

Not being very religeous I do feel much respect for John Paul II as I think his doings went far beyond just being the head of roman catholic church.

He was a very charismatic person and loudly remebered the world to be more active in helping the poor people and underdevloped countries. And there was something about him that made him very popular among young people.
He is a hero literally in Poland for his part in helping to bring down communism.
He was an advocate for peace and peaceful resolution of conflicts, and had the communication with other religons and faiths at his heart; just how important and maybe brave that is in recent troubled times.

But the thing that I probably remeber him for mostly was the easter mass every year when he sent his easter greetings in 60 or so langauge to the world. It seems such a small thing, but yet it was so nice to hear him doing so, being open enough to read out a short message in so many forgeign langauges. I think many people living away from their home countires appreciated that.

Although I knew he would die one day, I was still surprisedly touched and moved by the news of his recent passing. In a way I think he was a unique person of our time and who ever will become his successor will face a hard time as John Paul II "raised the game" to a very high level.

And so I will miss him, but I am also happy for him that he no longer suffers from his detoriating body.

Rest in peace Karol Wojtyla!!!

I'm neither catholic nor religious but I do feel that he was a good & moral man who truly cared about all people not just catholics and did his best to make the world a better place than it was when he was born. I don't think that's a bad legacy to leave behind. Rest in peace.

I do however think that the Pope was over-rated and was a cult figure to many.

Whilst in part it may be true that the pope is a cult figure in certain ways, maybe a better description would be 'a focal point'... a figurehead.

But, love him or hate him, the facts are there that he did play a part in many things.
Poland and the land it is today is one of these things.

One may not agree with all that He stood for, but what he did, he did in peace.
Rare in an age of guns and fury.
