I think it is just how long they keep your old e-mails. Sometimes it is nice to see when you started talking to someone, if you don't remember exactly. I wanted to see when I first saw my sub and forgot when I first went to meet her, so I looked back at my old e-mails. I couldn't remember if it was just before Halloween or right after. I don't think your e-mails being stored for awhile is bad.

Rentention to maintain or hold something for a period of time.
Often a pre agreed upon period

Could it be that the site simply stores the emails for 6 months, nothing sinister aimed personally at you or your master. I think CM keeps emails for 3 months and then deletes them - it just means that you can go back and reread them for a while before they get deleted.
