You know, most of the Idols that have won over the years have sold fuck all in the way of albums? There are only two that have gone on to be a true success story in the recording industry. These people just are not marketable. Taylor Hicks.. What the fuck? The only thing he can do is entertain a bunch of drunken wedding guests. He has no image to market.
This years female contestants. The only female contestant they have that has a marketable image is Haley and she is what? A distant third? Lakisha has a phenomenal voice, but absolutely no marketable image. Melinda is the only other contender, and she is a little better. But still.
Look at Fantasia, Season 3 winner. Where is she selling albums? To her friends, family and the occasional straggler. She did not have a marketable image either.
Carrie Underwood. She has remarkable talent, but she also has *IMAGE*. You can put her can on a pencil case and sell a million units.
So. Marketable image sells albums. Jessica Simpson. She is completely useless. But damnit, she has a body that would go the distance, and probably has a million times over. She sells. Britney Spears. Can she even sing? But she has that slut image that sold a bazillion albums before she completely destroyed her career.
Anyways, you get the idea.
