Senator John Sununu (R-NH) has called on President Bush to fire Attorney General Alberto Gonzales. Does this herald the end of the AG's tenure? Will he be squeezed out? Or will he weather the storm?

What do you think and why?

RWAble -> RE: Will Gonzales Go? (3/14/2007 7:49:57 PM)

Everybody knows Bush can't fire an Illegal.

According to the New York Times, it sounds like another GOP senator has some doubts too:

“The U.S. attorney general is probably facing the deepest crisis of his particular tenure,” Senator John Ensign, a Nevada Republican who has been critical of the dismissal of a prosecutor in his state, said in an interview. “We will find out how he handles this over the next few weeks, whether he is the kind of leader that deserves to stay in office.”

I think it is not a matter of "if" but "when" and "how".

pahunkboy -> RE: Will Gonzales Go? (3/15/2007 5:47:33 AM)

no ganzalaz wont go- he is intelegent. asdie from that- if gonzalaz is let go- think of the protests. "gonzalaz"

unless of course, possibly a female, "Lopez" was his replacement.

what is noteworthy is how this came out.
in state govt PA got rid of alot of the policitic bed laws. seems to flow better- tho still nutso at times here.

King George loves blind loyalty above all other things combined, so unless Gonzales decides that this will not fade away by himself and quits then he will be there.

Look how long it took to get Rumsfeld out and King George only has another two years left.

I keep going back and forth. At first, I thought he'd definitely get edged out. Then the scandal seemed to die down a bit. Tonight, though, the Washington Post reports, "A second Republican [who, dammit?] called for his ouster today."

dcnovice -> RE: Will Gonzales Go? (3/15/2007 6:03:16 PM)

According to Newsday, the second GOP senator is Gordon Smith of Oregon:

And Sen. Gordon Smith, R-Ore., said Thursday Gonzales had lost the confidence of Congress.

"The senator believes it would be helpful to have an attorney general that Congress can have more confidence in," said Smith's spokesman, R.C. Hammond.

I predict Gonzales will be thrown under a bus, he is expendable

I think the probe will spread.....and won't because of the good public servants in congress.

Greg Pallast came on the radio as I was driving back earlier tonight to say that this thing is deep and goes back to time when Bush gave away lottery contracts when he was Governor of Texas. They've tied Harriet Myers into it now as axewoman and even mentioned her firing investigators looking into the fact that Bush's military service is a fabrication.

dcnovice -> RE: Will Gonzales Go? (3/17/2007 9:48:57 AM)

It does seem like even the Republicans are piling on at this point. I'm guessing he's a goner.

dcnovice -> RE: Will Gonzales Go? (3/17/2007 9:08:04 PM)

Starting to think I posted this in the wrong section, though it is a poll.

juliaoceania -> RE: Will Gonzales Go? (3/17/2007 10:35:03 PM)

It is hard to get people to post political points in this section. I think they should split up the polls into bdsm or off topic polls and random stupidity should be its own category

sambamanslilgirl -> RE: Will Gonzales Go? (3/19/2007 4:03:00 PM)

Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi was in town today and has been quoted in an interview that we need a new Attorney General.

dcnovice -> RE: Will Gonzales Go? (3/20/2007 6:29:21 PM)

Well, Bush sounded pretty feisty tonight, so this may go on a while.

SirDiscipliner69 -> RE: Will Gonzales Go? (3/21/2007 5:18:31 AM)

Did it ever occur to anyone that Gonzales was the fall guy from the beginning as it was planned by Bush's administration for him to take the hit unknowingly?

It was meant also to discredit Gonzales' ethnic group and help foster more hatred towards the illegal immigrants....might shrewd planning if you ask Me.

Definitely looks like this will be a long, nasty fight.

dcnovice -> RE: Will Gonzales Go? (3/24/2007 10:04:36 PM)

Mixed signals tnoight. Bush reaffirmed his support for AG AG, but newspapers reported on documents suggesting that he was more involved in the firings that he'd said.

dcnovice -> RE: Will Gonzales Go? (4/19/2007 7:01:55 PM)

Well, Gonzales testified today, and he doesn't seem to have wowed folks. Yet he may hang in there. I honestly can't tell.
