JerseyKrissi72 -> I Finally Got A Job (3/15/2007 6:14:10 AM)

          I haven't been working since May 2006, shortly before my Master passed away then afterwards, I just didn't care or have the enthusiasm to get up and do much of anything. I went yesterday and took my drug test for my new job, it's just cashier/ clerk in a grocery store but they are trying to find a position in stock for me because I have experience. I look at it this way, it's not alot of money but it's money and it will get me out of this house, help my self-esteem some- get around people instead of staying away from everyone like I have been doing. I don't know when I start, I have orientation next week but hey, it's a good start....maybe things this year will go better for me[:)]

pahunkboy -> RE: I Finally Got A Job (3/15/2007 7:17:19 AM)

Dear Krissi,

wayy cool!!  I worked with the public for several yrs. Here is my advice. Always show manners.  expect 1 out of 100 to be jerks- try not to let the one jerk of the day bring you down.

next- comfy shoes- possibly cushoned socks. when i did construction, i used these special socks made for standing on feet all day. it was worth the extra $2.

it always boils down to your WRITTEN JOB description.  when politics or personal life is prodded, try to stay out of any pre games that already go on.  A simple senence such as " I am here to serve teh public/customers" --- can do wonders at nipping in the bug workplace inuendos. be polite but professional.

ive seen your posts over time. i have no doubt you will succeed.  [with inflation figure 3 jerks out of 100] you are a very sensitive lady. if you need to vent- we can talk via phone...

anyhow  good going.
im happy for u!
Roger

Congrats!!

Getting out of the house is very important for the mourning process. Interacting with people is also a positive thing. You're heading in the right direction.

thankyou. i just got up one morning and said to myself either i do something positive in my life and make some changes something that would have made my late Master proud or I sit here day after day doing nothing, becoming nothing. It is definately a step in the right direction- no doubt- a Dom friend of mine told me if I fail my drug test I will meet his whip lol...[8|]

You might be surprised that once you get 'out there', other opportunities may very well open up as a result.  Best wishes to you  [&:]

cjenny -> RE: I Finally Got A Job (3/15/2007 9:28:09 AM)

Yayyy you! I know its hard hard to get back 'out there' but you are doing it. Even tho it is 'just' a cashier job.. it is a big and great step you are taking. It doesnt matter what the job is just so long as you are de-isolating yourself, oh Im excited and envious for you. [:D]

captainsgirl -> RE: I Finally Got A Job (3/15/2007 9:40:32 AM)

Way to go Krissi!  I understand - I've been home since September when my 3 yr old was diagnosed with diabetes.  I'm finally back to  work - on a casual basis - but its so nice to actual hold adult conversations

Chloelicious -> RE: I Finally Got A Job (3/15/2007 9:50:32 AM)

Krissy

Congratulations!!!
Even if it is a 'simple' cashier job (wich is not that simple), it is a job anyway!!

I work as a cashier in a grocery store too, some pieces of advice: Like Pahunkboy said, always take confortable shoes (sneakers  are the bests); keep your quiet even when you met "son of a gun type" of clients.always preparing you working space, just before taking services,....
I know it sounds a bit silly but i can assure you that it will help feeling better at work.

What kind of grocery store would you be working in? Walmart or a "local" store?

I hope you will enjoy it.

BRAVO, Krissi...i know about the isolation & i also know how good it feels when we end it...you will do very well out there & i'm sure that your late Master will be very proud of you...you go, girl!!!

sleazybutterfly -> RE: I Finally Got A Job (3/15/2007 11:12:42 AM)

I so much understand what you mean.  When I went through losing someone close to me a couple of years ago, I went through the same thing.  I finally got so depressed, I wouldn't even go out of the house.

I have now enrolled in school and I start classes next week.  It is doing me a world of good just getting back out there and being around others again.  I know it's still going to be hard sometimes, but one step at a time will take us back into it all again.

Good luck, hun...
