Hey all; my best friend is retiring after 31 years service to the state. He served as union treasurer and prez, went on to mgmt.  any little fundraiser and he would generously  contribute.

S0000000000000000000, i take it upon myself to get the enthusiasm revved up at his place of work with a "dont be a tighwad" blurb....

long story short- share ur experiences with ideas- on how to make this BIGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG!

help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sounds like he is a wonderful man- so generous . I am glad you recognize his kindness as he retires. Does he have a favorite hobby such as golf? Perhaps a membership somewhere would be a good idea. not sure . never been to a retirement party but good luck with it hon.

well- hmm- he owns a gay drag show team that competes. he happens to be gay, was obese- but had the fat surgery.  and yes- everyone at work "knows"----  he knew my mom, and 2 of my aunts whom also worked where he does.

he was VERY close to his mom, who in her adult life became blind, then was stricken with cancer.

today i told jim i loved him. [not in a romantic sense-- we never had sex, not my type]
he strated to cry.

he wants to be inclusive of th entire facility- and not limit the party just to the front office.

Is there a space your company could rent large enough to hold at the party attendees?
How many people would be there?  How fancy or informal should this be?
Do you have a budget to work with?  Will there be singing and
dancing at the party?

Organise for his team come over and do a tribute, and get donations  for something close to his heart that you can present to him, maybe cancer research?

he is very sentimental.  hmmm cancer research- that would excite him. in the area of 800 ppl would participate- both co-workers- and clients.

which makes me think..... hmmmm. *bling*

Get crime scene tape, fake blood, and a stripper. Make sure everyone comes in early.

Sure, but you have to pay $25.00 a month to get off the list.

In line with the idea of donating money to a charity meaningful to him instead of giving gifts you could also buy a park bench or a drinking fountain at a park nearby in memory of his mum or something.   Maybe you could contact your local paper and they could do a short article on him as well to acknowledge his contribution to the community.

Brilliant idea!!!  Im not sure I have the clout to make it a go tho.   As of this morning tho- he will be getting a plaque from the state. I phoned it in. She said should she mail it. i said no, thats tacky; i will pick it up. so as to be no surprises; I told him about this.

:-)
