pahunkboy -> Ambien sleepwalkers???? !!! (3/16/2007 1:09:23 PM)

Hey all-

I seen on KTLA, that the FDA wants a proper brochure to be furnished per about 12 sleep meds....ambien is one of them.

Wondering- has anyone personally experienced this ??

I KNOW I had. As I found stuff place in my fridgerator- that wasnt intended for there. When you take this drug- you are to get into bed and be ready for sleep. Not lolly gag around-  ---i note- one should have abit of milk or food in stomache for proper absorption.

Anyhow they report- people making calls, driving, cooking, ordering stuff online, all with no memory of such- due to the drug.

Lemme also say- tolerance to this classs of drug builds fast- very fast.

I know I never drove "sleepwalking"; but I am sure I made phone calls under the influence.

Anyone else??

[ps NEVER mix a hypnotic with a sedative!!]

Said on the news today that Patrick "Patches" Kennedy does.
Only he uses it for "Sleep Driving."
An Ambien and tonic.
Ted Kennedy; "And again, and again and again and again!"

ALLEGED RAPIST CLAIMS HE WAS SLEEPWALKING ON AMBIEN

WIFE CLAIMS SHE WAS SLEEPING ON AMBIEN WHEN SHE BASHED IN HUSBAND'S HEAD

etc., etc.

plausable. ambien is a sedative hypnotic.  if anyone remember what placidills were- ok- thats the class med it is.

the 1st time i was on it- i wrote my sister a note. the most viable part of the note was mentioning the spare room had GREEN carpet.  other then that- one could not decipher thtat- i offerred her and her hubby a place to crash for the night.....

Devilslilsister -> RE: Ambien sleepwalkers???? !!! (3/16/2007 3:17:25 PM)

My mother has been taking ambien for years.  Never saw her sleep walk.

i've taken it a few times in the years past and never had an issue with it.  Never fell asleep with it either.  The only thing that affects me like they say ambien can is xannax.

i've heard about this stuff with Ambien..... quite often actually.  Never seen it.

Celeste43 -> RE: Ambien sleepwalkers???? !!! (3/16/2007 3:19:02 PM)

Patrick Kennedy was on a drug that is a heavy duty cough suppressant as well as the Ambien. I'm assuming he had been ill with bronchitis or such and couldn't sleep due to the coughing. Apparently the Phenergan and the Ambien together did this and he wasn't warned by either his doctor or his pharmacist of drug interactions.

FirmhandKY -> RE: Ambien sleepwalkers???? !!! (3/16/2007 4:31:46 PM)

I have had a member of my family take ambien and end up sleepwaking.  About half the time that she took it, she would get out of bed after about 30 minutes, and walk around the house, getting and cooking food, stripping wall paper and doing all kinds of things in a half-drugged looking manner.

She refused to believe she was doing anything for a long time, until we video taped her one night, and showed it to her the next day.

I'd be very careful with ambien.  If she had gotten it into her mind to go driving, she would have wrecked for certain.

The Kennedy that did that in DC a year or so ago, I had sympathy for.  I believed his story.

The funny thing was, young Patches was in a car accident two weeks prior to that in either R.I. or Conn. I forget which.
No mention of sleeping pills in that one but there was "an odor of alchohol" like in the Washington accident.
You don't go to rehab for "sleeping pills".
Could the Boy Congressman possibly have gotten "a bad ice cube?"

pahunkboy -> RE: Ambien sleepwalkers???? !!! (3/17/2007 5:13:28 AM)

It's already happened.  Here in NY in a county near me a man strangled his wife and daughter, tucked them back in bed and then a day later stabbed himself in the groin to committ suicide. The article cited he was on ambiena dn this may have had a role in what he did.

i have taken ambien on and off for several years and never had any such side effects - but then again - would i know? i think i would suspect - i am a very very light sleeper - sleep problems most of my life.  Maybe it's dependent on the persons chemistry?  Or perhaps long term use?  i will definately be following up on ambien studies.

You don't go to rehab for "sleeping pills".

You sure can - if you abuse them like any other drug and do not use them for their  intended use.

pahunkboy -> RE: Ambien sleepwalkers???? !!! (3/17/2007 6:11:11 AM)

isnt there a pill for every thing,. if ur toe iches- there is a pill,

velvetears -> RE: Ambien sleepwalkers???? !!! (3/17/2007 6:19:34 AM)

We do seem to be a "pill" society - i think the more holistic you can approach something the better off you are.  Pills don't always cure they many times mask or simply make symptoms disappear - there is still the underlying problem as to why you have the condition.

true.  THE accupuncturist i can access is in Chicago. ild go every day if i could. the needles do not hurt.
he did this needle to area 17 on my head to relax me.  amazing.

ironically- my 1st accupuncurist passed away w cancer. his brother took over the practice.

i also am a fan of chiripracters.  tho - some tend to "over adjust"- so good clear communication is essential.

i walk of life of chronic pain here- as i have injuries. [spare the pity- as many in cm ALSO suffer]

i am for CHOICE regarding anythng to do with MY body. pills, therapy- u name it.

CHOICE.
