I don't spend much time in hotels.  For me, if it's clean, non-smoking and has a continental breakfast I'm happy.

Hampton Inn - value for money almost every time - except in New Mexico ....where it was crap/

I use them 2 to 3 times a week.

If I'm talking a quick just need a nice place to stay on a trip- I like the new Super8s.  They are cheap, free internet, clean, and a good continental breakfast.

When we went to the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame, there was a Ramada next to the airport which was insanely cheap, a quick jump to the city, but perfectly up to the standards of your cookie-cutter hotel needs.

If you're in central NJ I highly recommend the Loop Inn- though depending on you want they can get pricy, they are perfect for a sexy night of passion.

Being in the industry, I prefer to see independants, because they are more interesting and to support them.

That having been said, cookie cutter hotels are pretty much all the same in my books when it comes to hard factors (rooms, amenities), depending on the price range, and soft factors (service with a smile, atmosphere) really depend on which property you may be at at any given time.

It also depends on if the hotel you're staying at is owned, managed, both, or neither by (insert company name).

Hilton, for example, owns hotels under different names (such as the local Marriott) and runs hotels others own.  Throw in franchises, and you have a giant mess.

Yours,

benji

I am a big fan of the no tell motel.
If I am traveling it is always a youth hostel.  Clean, nice people and quite inexpensive...I think the last time I stayed in Santa Monica it was $12 per night and rock throwing distance to the ocean.

Cheap'n'cheerful. Not because I'm a miser but I found in my youth that if you like meeting interesting characters cheap hotels are the places to stay and that attitude has stayed with me. I've traveled around Japan several times staying in cheap inns (minsuke) and met many Japanese people and it is usually quite difficult to socialise with Japanese people because they are so reserved and private people. Met a bit of a down and out in Chicago who could recite just about any poem you could name. Met a stripper in Thunder Bay who had the best rude jokes I have ever heard. Had one of the wildest nights of my life in a hotel in Saskatoon of all places. You just don't meet that class of people in hotel chains that cost, they are all the same, no matter what city they are in and whatever the country.

Door locks and there is no gunfire outside the room at 5am I am happy.

I suppose this means I now have an aversion to Comfort Inn because some clown with a Glock woke me
up when I was staying there.

A "weal" and "twue" hotel would have prevented all gunfire into rooms while guests were sleeping.

When you are in Japan if you have a choice between the youth hostels and the National Lodging Houses take the NLH.  Don't get me wrong the youth hostels are wonderful but the National Lodging Houses while about twice the price of a youth hostel are like the Ritz in comparison.  Same mindset as the youth hostels but way way upscale and in the most senic areas with astonishing views from the rooms.  And the food is equally fine.

Marriott for business and when I can use my tons of rewards points for free stay.  Otherwise I like Hampton Inn or La Quinta.

On some business travel I stayed in a Swissotel -- I liked it because breakfast was unlike and better than the typical fare elsewhere.

Looks like the one that was in Boston is now a Hyatt; there are a few others scattered around the world including one in Chicago.

It's a tie between Sheraton, Hilton, and The Westin...  I loooooooooove hotels; in fact, last boy suggested I should find a hotel owning submissive for long term.    M

Motel 6...because they always leave the light on for you.

Remember one time I stayed at a Motel 6 in Toledo Ohio...a lady was having orgasim after orgasim...could hear her down the hall. Between each one she'd get all quiet, then you would hear a door open then close. Kinda like she had a line of men standing outside the door in the hallway just waiting their turn. Next everything would start up again. This went on for over an hour I swear.

Eventually we just had to look and see. No line but she kept it up. Figured the doors opening must have been other guests that were awakened by her screaming. Checking it out as my ex and I were.

Did have some sex though thanks to her...hey if you are up already why not. Although we did not compete on the noise level, being that we had our baby boy in the room with us sleeping.

We usually stay at a Hampton Inn, I find them to be very nice hotels and a good value for your money. Most of the Hilton chain are nice hotels. The two worst hotels I ever stayed in was  Marriott in Williamsburg Va and the Wyndham in New Orleans THAT was the worst hotel I've ever stayed in!!
