A bit of an introduction first; i'm a college educated submissive male living in Calgary, Alberta.  i've been into BDSM for many years now but all of my experience comes via the interent.  i've finally decided that i am ready to take my interests into the real world and search for a Mistress who will allow me the honor and privilege of being Hers to own, play with, abuse and amuse Herself with. 

Taking my interests to the real world can be quite scary and although i have been introduced to a Domme or two via this site and others i have generally chickened out when it came right down to it.  So i took a bit of a break to really decide what it is i am looking for and whether or not i am truly ready for the next step.  i feel that i am now mentally ready to serve and submit in the real world...in fact, i am very eager to do so.

Unfortunately, Calgary doesn't exactly seem to be a hub of BDSM and fetish activity.  Does anyone know of any popular, and populated, groups within the Calgary area?  Preferably an active group where i may be able to meet more people with similar interests.  Any comments or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

You speak out of ignorance.   There is a significant amount of activity going on in Calgary and Alberta in general.  As my girl as provided a link to one avenue, you can start there.  I would also caution you to keep your expectations as minimal as possible.   Your Online experience, though interesting is going to be of limited value in face to face interactions.  Particularly if you try to use Online Protocals and incorporate them into the Offline Environment.

Like Knight and kyra said there is actually a very good community in Calgary. I'm guessing there is probably a different function a week, they do work shops consistantly etc.

If you want to find people around you it;s pretty easy. I don;t live there and I'm on 3 of the mailing lists. *S*

Do a google on Alberta Society for Kink or e-mail them at [email protected]. That is one of the fastest ways.

There is also Calgary Legacy House, P3 as kyra already posted, and I think there are a couple others if I remember corectly but I don't have them under my finger tips at the moment.

Calgary has a large and thriving community.  There are about 3+ munches a week (at last count), at least one play party a month, at least one set of workshops a month, a fetish 'bar' night once a month, a flea market twice a year (the next one is coming up in about 5 weeks), a couple of campouts a year, as well as numberous other functions that are somewhat sporatic.

The sites listed above will connect you with all the pertinent info.  As KnightOfMists has already said, real life is quite a bit different than the internet.  Often times fantasies that worked very well in cyberland just won't work in real life.  As well, most of the people you will meet are just regular folks a lot like yourself.  It will take time to find that fit but hanging in there until it does happen will offer the most rewards in the end.

Well i think perhaps my definition of "hub of activity" greatly differs from yours but I do appreciate the feedback.  i realize that there are a few groups in the area but nothing compared to Toronto or Vancouver. i've done a lot of research into what kind of group activity there seems to be in the area and had even attended a meeting of a now defunct fetish group.  All i can say is that i was not disappointed when that group disbanded.  i hope to meet a few of you in the weeks to come and hope i have more success in the future than i did in the past.  i also wish you all well in your search, too.
