What happens if you delete a windows prefetch file? Will it screw things up or will it just generate a new one? I have a problem file that I think is screwing with things on my computer and I think that is where it started.

It is ctfmon.exe and connected executables in Prefetch. There was instructions on how to disable functions of ctfmon.exe on the microsoft webpage, but it assumes you know the "Microsoft Office Program" that it is installed in. A second Prefetch file appeared today in the prefetch folder for ctfmon.exe. I'm wanting to just erase i, but that could cause problems. Mcaffee scanner does not mark it as spyware or a virus.

I tried uninstalling a file from the prefetch folder and it just came back all by itself. I think AOL puts a lot of them there.

well you can always go into dos if you are running fat 32 and rename it too .xxx, since it is not a sys file it should just remake it
