If you have it and you know you have it for Windows XP, does it contain ctfmon.exe? ctfmon.exe is part of the explorer Language bar. It should be in System32 for all XP systems and one  Windows prefetch file. It also appears in my:
C:\Windows\ServicePackFiles\i386
If you know you have Service Pack 2 for certain, do a search(above your green start button-lower left corner after you hit it. You will see Run, Search, Control Panel). Search all files and folders. I just want to know where it appears for you. The main question being-does Windows Service Pack 2 contain it?

If it does contain it, then I have nothing to worry about.

Windows update will update critical things automatically. Does that mean that everyone with internet access will automatically have Service Pack 2? If you want to know what Service Pack 2 is, you can visit microsoft and read about it or go to Wikipedia and search for WindowsXP.

After doing some searches, a quick way to know if you have the Service Pack 2 amd the file(ctfmon which shows as an application. Properties show it as a loader) Do the search for ServicePackFiles instead When it appears in the search window, click the folder. Another folder will open saying i386. Click it. When it opens, there is an alphabetical list. If you have it, it should show there.

I wonder what happens if you just erase it(Don't do it, if you don't know!)?

you can try just renaming it. worst thing can happen is... you need to rename it back.

Do you have Service Pack 2, WilliamWizer? Can you just do a quick search of your files and folders? It only takes a minute on mine.
Green Start button in lower left corner
The box comes up with all programs arrow, search, run, etc. Hit search
Usually a little yellow dog is below the search options. Chose Files and Folders
Type ServicePackFiles
If it appears-it will be a folder
Click Folder-i386 will appear as a folder, click it
An alphabetical list appears-scroll down to ctfmon

Then just tell me if it was there. I've already deactivated its legitimate function from the control panel, but it may not be legit, since maybe it isn't supposed to be there. This assumes WindowsXP, I don't know if you got Vista yet.
