WyrdRich -> Did I miss it? (3/21/2007 4:48:43 PM)

Has it been 100 hours yet?  I honestly don't know.  I have managed to put 100 hours on the time clock in a single week a few times, doing it in two weeks is pretty standard, three weeks and life is easy.  I understand that politicians are different though.

We're two months in to the Democrat majority in the House, did the nations burger-flippers get that raise yet?  How about enacting all the recomendations of the 9/11 Commission?  Other than launching what looks to be an endless series of investigations that will only be news until the Spector trial starts, have the Dems actually DONE anything with their regained power yet?

Can anybody explain to me why all they seem to be doing is aiming a gun loaded with hollow-points at their own foot?

Well, what do you know.  Thanks for the quick reply.  Got links to them actually getting signed into law?

I'm asking because I heard the burger-flippers didn't get their raise after all.  I'm in a period of burn-out right now, newswise.  I know the CA minimum went up only because my standard order at Del Taco's drive-thru now costs $1 more, but nationally, I have no idea.

puella -> RE: Did I miss it? (3/21/2007 5:17:17 PM)

Yes, they did it in just over 42 hours.

The following bills have passed the House:
  • Ethics reform,
  • An increase in the federal minimum wage for the first time in 10 years,
  • Enactment of the 9-11 commission's recommendations,
  • Expanded stem-cell research,
  • Government negotiation of prices with prescription drug companies,
  • Student loan interest rates cut in half,
  • The elimination of billions in subsidies for big oil companies.

Not to mention that they have had more oversight hearings in the two months since they gained the majority than in the previous 7 years combined.

The Democrats don't control that part, alas.

i'm a chicken-patty flipper, or rather, i take people's money and other people flip the chicken :P but yeah, our min. wage did go up to $6.67. i was already making over min. wage at $6.50, and i got a raise like one paycheck after min. wage went up (so now i make $7.25), but yeah, our wages did go up, praise god. our company's prices did not go up, however.

WyrdRich -> RE: Did I miss it? (3/21/2007 5:24:05 PM)

So when do drive-thru prices go up nationwide?  I seem to remember they won the Senate too, and I'm pretty sure Bush vetoing it would have made it through my filters.

How much of that list has been made law?

puella -> RE: Did I miss it? (3/21/2007 5:26:44 PM)

They have a slight majority in the Senate, but not enough to over-ride a Republican block, which has repeatedly happened, as I am sure you are well aware.

Also, the Senate never made a 100 hours promise, only the Congress did, so your condemnation is not actually applicable.

i seriously doubt you'll see a large-scale increase. there hasn't been any increase in our company's prices at all, and locally, i haven't seen an increase at other fast food restaurants. it's been 3 months or so since wages have gone up, and most local fast food workers make over min. wage anyway (hell, mickey d's starts you out at like $7.50), so i don't see this causing a rise in food prices anytime in the very near future.

WyrdRich -> RE: Did I miss it? (3/21/2007 5:39:51 PM)

Thank you all for the replies.  I figured the minimum wage increase was a sure thing, then heard today it hadn't gone through.

And Puella, oversight is a good thing.  I'm of the opinion that a "get Bush" strategy will be very risky at best and downright stupid at worst.  Like President Cheney wouldn't pardon him anyway...

I had a related thought.

I wonder if Bush has been informed by the nitwits under his command that the Administration is now playing a psychotic game of Hot Potato.

Nobody wants to be left holding the bag.

I imagine Shotgun told Monkeyboy that if he resigns (like Nixon did) he will not be pardoned.

I tend to think Monkeyboy is going to go down on this one, and all his flunkies will use the "just following orders" defense that worked so well at Nuremberg.

I say we take all the Republicans and Democrats out and shoot them in front of the White House. Then make all the new "Public Servants" watch the film of the shooting before they can work. It would do wonders for ethics.

I disagree.

I think we should modify our laws to prevent reelection.

In other words, you get to run for President or Senator or Congressman or Governator and hold that job for 6 years (as Nixon indicated was an appropriate interval), no more, no less.

Then you are taken out behind the shed and put down.

puella -> RE: Did I miss it? (3/21/2007 5:55:44 PM)

Yeah that sounds like a really great idea... sounds kind of like something you would see happen in Darfur.

Because they are Democrats, duh.

SimplyMichael -> RE: Did I miss it? (3/21/2007 6:15:38 PM)

So the first hundred hours of the dems bears massive scrutinany but the last 6 years doesn't?

luckydog1 -> RE: Did I miss it? (3/21/2007 6:17:58 PM)

yep crappy, winning elections means you get scrutinized(sp?).  Welcome to the big leauges.  It is easy to sit on the side and snipe, much harder to actually do stuff.
