LadyAnnabelleLee -> 'Nilla cone defense? (3/21/2007 11:10:46 PM)

It's a long question, humor me.

So, is it just me or when people with only a few posts chime in to back someone up do you think its just the OP trying to save face via a "different" identity?

I always, always, ALWAYS think that when someone hops in to defend someone else who's being flamed. Especially if they've still got an ice cream cone next to their name.

But hey I'm skeptical of just about everything.

not necessarily, but as in the thread about the disney pics on the main forum, it's clear that many people's friends join solely for the purpose of "defending" them. i wouldn't be so quick to judge that it's the same person (although that's likely), but i still think it's silly even if it's the person's friends, just to make accounts to defend an online argument.

i wonder now.... only because i have seen people accuse another of doing that, and stating that they can tell by the IC hookup or some such (?) that the post came from the same computer. How would we know to check that?

I do not always think this. In fact I rarely consider it to be honest.

LuckyAlbatross -> RE: 'Nilla cone defense? (3/22/2007 7:30:14 AM)

It happens, but rarely.

I do not think that it matters. If someone says something stupid and then is as stupid as to make up a new identity to support his earlier stupidity, that new identity will only say something equally stupid, thus raising his stupidity to a higher power. Such people are very insecure and very boring. Losers.

It is the same with couples in which one is quick to come to the support and rescue of the other. In that case both loose.

kc692 -> RE: 'Nilla cone defense? (3/22/2007 4:14:53 PM)

Contrary to what some of the other people have said, it happens a bit, especially if the poster without a lot of posts happens to have also joined relatively recently, or about the same time as the person being defended.

domiguy -> RE: 'Nilla cone defense? (3/22/2007 5:26:45 PM)

I think it's rather ridiculous to consider that people would take the time to do such a thing.

missturbation -> RE: 'Nilla cone defense? (3/22/2007 5:38:42 PM)

I was actually accused of this recently lol. It wasn't me but it was a close personal friend who knows me very well that jumped in to defend me. I can definately see why i was accused of it and how it must have looked. I guess it probably does happen but i never think about it. No matter how many people defend someone if i think they are wrong or daft then it wont change my opinion.

DiurnalVampire -> RE: 'Nilla cone defense? (3/22/2007 5:41:58 PM)

Some of us think it mainly when the identity getting on the high horse happens to have joined the same day they came to the rescue.  And they usually know exactly wat the OP was trying to say, and their personal situation.  Too many coincidences and it makes them look hinky.

Sometimes, it can be legit, but enough people have tried to fight losing battles by becoming their own army that I do think it on occasion.  Depends on how vehemently the defense gets into the fray.

LuckyAlbatross -> RE: 'Nilla cone defense? (3/22/2007 6:09:42 PM)

Which is silly because everyone knows the best defense is to say "I've gotten a lot of private emails from people who say I rock and you suck"
