GREENSBURG, Pennsylvania (AP) -- A couple and their three teenage children held a woman captive for six months, referring to her as their "slave" as they beat her, forced her to do chores and threatened her life and the lives of her relatives, police said Wednesday.

I wonder if this woman started off doing this on a consentilal bassis and it got out of hand, and the police were brought in. I wonder what would happen if the neighbors would have seen some of the things I have done in a consential relationship, and what the cops would say/do? would they believe my sub/slave? would they say she was suffering from trama and did not know what she was submitting to?

Hell she was a kid herself, all 3 of those siblings were within 3 years of the "victims" age. We all start at different ages, but if 16 is the age of consent in PA I don't see anything wrong with it. (of course this is coming from someone that topped a 27 yro when I was 17 myself)

What kid wouldn't dream of having a slave around the house to do chores for them?

Seriously though, it disturbs me that only the bad nonconsensual stuff shows up in the papers and people associate it with the lifestyle I'm into. Then I have to deal with educating them out of all their misconceptions with BDSM.

I wonder if she was just taken/tricked, as some have by predators, or else went into this with open eyes and then changed her mind. Threatening her family was way out of line :( No, I haven't read the article. Don't want to...too depressing.

If she was under the age of consent, it's a matter of statutory rape at best, even if she (as one poster suggested) started out voluntarily. Back when I was in my late teens, I'd probably have consented to some stuff that I shouldn't have, and would have to say that I lacked the maturity to see that far ahead. Anyone who wants to play with someone that is fairly young, or inexperienced, should be prepared to spend a lot of time getting to know the person and their limits, as well as using incremental time limits on any lifestyle slavery.

It is, however, quite interesting that almost all the posters automatically assumed that she was involuntary. I do, too. But I am also keenly aware of how, especially at such an age where social feedback is of paramount importance, it can be easier to claim something was involuntary than to face reactions from parents, peers, law enforcement and media from admitting that it was consensual. I know of cases where the sub has been pushing to go further, while the Dom has been holding back, only to end up with things eventually falling apart for other reasons, and having the sub filing charges for rape, assault and battery; I've also seen such things in vanilla relationships.

As outside observers, it's kind of hard to judge whether people started out on a sensible note and then went off the track, or if they were messed up from the get-go, or if it is a backlash or "scapegoat"-procedure from the sub. I know people that would have been able to be serious, dedicated slaves at her age, and people twice my age that still haven't matured enough to be bottoms for a single session. Hence, hard to tell.

This has nothing to do with BDSM. This is an involuntary servitude case. I work with an National Anti Slavery organization, and this happens more often than you hear about. In the Boston area, in the last 15 ish years there have been three similar cases. At no point was a BDSM lifestyle suggested or inferred by either side. As in this case

The involutary part comes, not with the fact that she went there volutarily, but that she was not allowed to leave, or was coerced into believing that if she did leave something * bad * would happen to her. Theoretically, the slaves back in the plantation days were free to leave, there were no locks or chains on the door, BUT they knew if they left, they would suffer worse atrocities than they were living already. Most involutary servitude cases I am aware of in this contry < and there have been many > the victim was not locked up or chained.

i was going to say something along the same lines, but saw this reply, so i'll keep it short and just agree with maybemaybenot. There are so many other cases very similar to this one, many of them cases of people trying to leave their native country (Haiti, Mexico, and countries throughout Africa, Asia, and South America...) for a better life. They apply to be a housekeeper, au-pair, or another household employee in one of the richer parts of their own country, or in another country (such as the United States or European countries), and when they arrive, things start well, but it goes all down hill from there, with the person who thought they would be doing a respectable job to help their family ending up being a slave to the family (whether the family says it or not), doing all the housework, being abused, eating only tablescraps, and living in the smallest of quarters possible, or in the worst room of the house (possibly a small room in the basement or the room between the kitchen and dining room in some cases).

It's sad that it is still going on, but sadder still that more cases of slavery do not get recognition, so many people don't think it happens that often.

I see ever one still belives in the media,there are always two sides to the stories,they never print what the true facts are it is always dressed up to sell papers,I know this cause I have been there back in 1998,never wrote the truth,and as people added to to stories it changed so the real truth is never written in the papers,facts are changed Mistress Christianna

Yes the spin on facts is always done and they only show the best-selling side to things. But to a degree they have to show the truth in order to be sure they aren't caught or accused of fraud/slander.

Though I'm not sure I always assumed d/s wasn't much of a family activity. Though then again I haven't met anyone whose family was into d/s.
