Are you saying that every Republican that votes in favor of the war will lose in 2008?

There are pro-war districts you know... There are conservative districts you know... In fact, the Dems will be lucky to hold some of the conservative districts they won in the last election. Florida's district 16 was Foley's district. It has 55% registered Republicans. Tom Delay's district has over 60% registered Republicans. The Dems that hold those seats are going to have to support conservative measures or they will lose their seats in 2 years.

Like I said in an earlier post, these people are not being elected nationally. They are being re-elected in their districts and states. And the districts may have very different polling results than the national polls. The congressmen have to answer to no one other than their own voters. If you are elected from a pro-war district in Florida for example, you owe no explanation to the people of California or New York or Virginia, etc...

The only ones that have to worry about those national polls are the ones running for president.

What the Republicans lost in the "yer fired" election was primacy in Congress. It is all downhill from here, and the more idiotic things Monkeyboy does simply steepens the curve and digs the hole deeper.

ok ok ok, i cant read through all of what you all said.

So it passed? Does that mean its going to happen? Some one explain it to me? They'll make sure all the troops are home by Sept? Or was it Sept 2008? Thats like a year and a half away?

Some one please please explain? i, er, feeling slightly illogical at the moment and i cant sort it out. My brother hasnt gone over yet and is still working on preventing it. So, is it possible that if he manages to push it off long enough?????? He's like saved? He did mention there's like 6 months of training before they put them in iraq...

So do is there like a time frame now? i did see in one of the post's that it wasnt completely passed? i dun want to know all the hoo haaa about the dynamics of things getting passed... BUT if it isnt completley passed.. when would it be completely passed? What day should i keep in mind?

gah some one explain it pleaseeeeeeeeeeee....... the possiblity of him being saved.. well....

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but the bill has only passed (and not by much) the House of Representatives. Getting the Senate to pass anything like it seems unlikely. Then there's Bush, who has vowed he'll veto the bill should it ever come to him.

So no, there's no time-frame now. I'm sorry.

Hello A/all,

Before you go thinking that the passage of this means nothing, it is important to realize that the US government works (or not) by backroom deals and negotiations between government officials.

Bush can veto this bill, but he still has to ask people to support changes he wants to make. He has never shown much of an ability to build coalitions and work with people, and I imagine every time he tries after the veto he will be told "gee, Mr. President, I would love to help you out but you did veto that Iraq bill. Sorry."

Is that like adding the Pork in order to get something passed? I have to say I am so proud of our politicians. (Yes, I have My tongue in My cheek.)
They will support something no matter how wrong they feel it is, if they get something they have been wanting. Or they won't support something no matter how right it is, if they don't get that something.

And I am not saying you are wrong. This is, unfortunately, pretty much exactly how things work on the hill. I am just saying you present it as it there is nothing wrong with this picture. And that bothers Me. Apathy at its finest.

The US political process includes people negotiating to get other people to change their votes.

I am not saying it is good. I am saying it is the way things work in the US Government.

The toes a politician stomps on today may be connected to the behind they have to kiss tomorrow to get
their bill passed.
