I'm currently reading Timothy Leary's translation of "the Tibetan book of the dead" (The Dali Lama's "Leaving your body *and* coming back for dummies") for it's tips on Sub Drop.

In practise you'll find BDSM to be very spiritual, for once you have taken control of their body and mind away from someone, what do they have behind their eyes but their soul and no ability to hide it or anything else.

It even has similarities with organised religion, with mystics depriving and punishing themselves to be able to gaze upon paradise. Formal structures allowing de-collared members to be ex-communicated and low ranking members to get chastity belts, floggings and/or used for sex at their leaders whim. Major flame wars spring up over minor details. Crucifixions’ have become limited to consenting members of our own sects. Chanting. And lets face it, the whole obsession with orifices.. nuff said

But if you ever want a soul-deep answer, next time you put a subbie into subspace, ask her. If she says paradise you have an asnwer ;)

The best I've read is by Mikael Togneri, whose essays can be found reprinted, with permission, on many websites, including this one:

Does screaming "Oh, G-d!, Oh, G-d!, Oh, G-d!" count as spirituality?

LOL so I see you watched that Simpson episode too.

All kidding aside, for me, I see my approach in BDSM is also one of a spiritual journey as my consciousness changes and other thoughts and realities grow in me on this path.
I think respect, humility & service are core in both my Faith and my kink.
I think the pursuit of religion and the pursuit of my BDSM energy exchange journey integrate in my spiritual path to enlightenment and fulfillment.
In both I'm governed by my beliefs, values & integrity.
