I am basically new to the DBSM community and all its terms. I am currently with someone who wants me to become His slave... can someone tell me, other than control, what's the true difference between being a "sub" and being a "slave"?? And how do i know which i am?

There are no set definitions for either role. Don't worry about other people's labels. I fit what most on here would call a slave and identify myself s a sub.Be what you're comfortable with.

Welcome to the forums. There are as many definitions for this as there are subs and slaves i think. Why don't you ask your dominant what he means by it and then decide if that is also what you want.

First piece of advice- do not make a commitment to anyone for the first six months of exploring "all this."

Secondly:

Probably the simplest way to explain it to lifestyle newbies is to rationalise it with a vanilla comparison.

Instead of sub or slave, think woman or wife - the main difference being a commitment.  Married or single, you never stop being a woman.  All wives are women but not all women are wives, as it is with slave and sub.  Wife and husband validate each others status, just as Master and slave does.  If you don't have a Master, you're not validated as a slave but revert to what you always are - submissive.

Even if it's decided you're now your partner's (or Master's) slave; you'll still be a sub - just as a wife is still a woman.

Focus.
