LadyAnnabelleLee -> Why do you call yourself your chosen title? (3/27/2007 8:32:10 AM)

As most anyone can tell female dominants give themselves different titles. Some are more prestigous (spelling?! ACK!) then most. Some are very simple. Here are the titles I've noticed:

~Goddess
~Ma'am
~Lady
~Master (in MasterFireMaam's case.)
~Mistress

So, my question is why do you call yourself such? I chose Lady because to me (imho) "Goddess" seems too haughty and above everything. I am not. "Ma'am" is nice for military play and that style of discipline, but I like to think I am far more gentle. "Master" is uh... Well, MasterFireMaam was the first I'd seen it use in the context of female domination. "Mistress" is too... perfect?

I chose Lady because the type of dominance and particular style I would like to exemplify is that of a loving, caring, strict and gentle woman. What better then Lady?

As always, LA link me up if I've reposted. Because I can be goofy like that. [:D]

DommeChains -> RE: Why do you call yourself your chosen title? (3/27/2007 8:49:23 AM)

I use the nic of DommeChains on this site because Chains is gender neutral.  I chose Chains cuz I have a "thing" for chains.  In r/t my boys call me Ma'am or, if they are collared to me, may address me by Mistress.  I use my real first name, sans title, in my local community.  I reserve the title for use between me and my boys and they have to earn the right to address me as Mistress.  Ma'am is just good ol' Texan courtesy lol.

TheShadows -> RE: Why do you call yourself your chosen title? (3/27/2007 8:55:53 AM)

The only two I regularly use/require is my real-time Scene Name and Mistress, but not both of them together.  Though, I do find the title of Master appealing, as we own femslaves as the rule, rather than the exception, but that's a whole other topic.

I enjoy being addressed as Mistress by slaves that I own, but I'm not known to introduce myself as Mistress So and So.  I can tolerate Ma'am after my Scene Name, as I realize it's meant out of respect/endearment, but it's definitely not required.  Anyone I don't own, they can pretty much call me anything, within reason, as long as it's not late for dinner.

When I tell a slave to do something I love hearing them respond with "Yes, My Queen". I have always desired to be treated like royalty. When I do Mother/child roleplay, I have the sub call me Ma'am or Mommy. I think people choose the title they feel best reflects how they wish to be treated.

canupleaseme -> RE: Why do you call yourself your chosen title? (3/27/2007 9:20:44 AM)

I didnt want a name at first it just made me laugh !!!  But the more we played together the more it felt right and goes between miss or mistress, miss is very occasionally.  Thats just with my boy though. I like how he says my name when he is very submissive, all the different tones he uses say so many different things depending on how he is feeling and I love the variaty.  But mainly in play jnow its mistress:)

thetammyjo -> RE: Why do you call yourself your chosen title? (3/27/2007 9:25:30 AM)

Ma'am is common politeness.

Master is a title I earned in history.

Lady seems a bit noble or to refer to a way of behaving; I'm not ladylike usually.

Goddess -- I'm not a deity.

So I like Mistress because it is the female form of master and I must have heard it positively when I was young because it's a strong turnon for me to hear it. I'm actually offended when "fools" use it to refer to the othe woman that someone is cheating with.

That was exactly why I didnt like it at first Tammy Jo. Whenever I got called mistress it made me think of that straight away.  Its only through developing our relationship that that title means so much more for very different reasons.[:D]

I own a small plot of land in Scotland - making me a Laird, the female version of which is Lady.

I think this is a key for many of us.

Just a random person calling me Mistress does nothing for me; if they continue, it find it annoying.

But someone I've trained and then owned calling me that is very positive for me.

Oh, and I should add that people I only scene with or whom I train are not allowed to call me Mistress. They use "Milady" instead. We both earn the right to call me "Mistress".

MySweetSubmssive -> RE: Why do you call yourself your chosen title? (3/27/2007 10:16:36 AM)

Ma'am doesn't make me think of military play, but of Edwardian servants (purrrrrr) or southern, reflexive politeness.  I don't think of Ma'am as a title so much as a demonstration of willingness by a submissive.  I want to see that someone is open to adressing me that way.

As a once pagan, I believe that the Goddess is in every woman and that the God is manifested in every man; divinity is immanent.  Goddess does not equal dominant to me.  Lady ... too often I feel that I'm not genteel enough. *smiling*  Master -- I enjoy my femaleness and am pretty wedded to my gender identity.

I love the title Mistress, and allow precious few submissives to address me that way.  I understand the cheating connotation, but the sense of Mistress as owner prevails for me.

One man I knew address me as Empress, and as rococo as it is, it worked and I loved it.

My thoughts exactly.  It's so ... sacred ... that I don't want to hear it casually spoken.

My new Mistress initially wanted me to call her Ma'am, perhaps for the same reasons as the discomfort you described having with the term Mistress which I think many people have associated with it to at least some degree.  I made a point of practicing calling her Ma'am and using it at every opportunity but it just never felt quite right to me. [:o]

When she heard me accidently call her Mistress during a passionate moment when I was rather deep in subspace, a moment I didn't even remember which she later told me about, she said she didn't mind hearing it come from me at all.  Sometime later I asked her if she'd mind if I continued to call her Mistress to which she readily agreed.  Apparently, she could sense how genuinely respectful it sounded when it came from me. LaTigresse -> RE: Why do you call yourself your chosen title? (3/27/2007 11:11:43 AM)

My personal style is such that for most people I prefer them to use my given name. There was someone once that could say "Lee" in such a way.......it was as though she said "Goddess Queen of my Universe".....but that's another story.

For me it isn't so much the words used but how they are used, that matters.

Ma'am is good when it's heading down the power path.....Mistress, only after I own your ass.

MissSCD -> RE: Why do you call yourself your chosen title? (3/27/2007 11:16:13 AM)

Well,

I just used Domina because it seems mature to me.  I am an older Domme.  I also wanted to use something to identify me with my home which is SC.
I liked Mistress as well, but wanted to break away from the name because my Mentor named me in the beginning. I totally broke away from him and needed a new start.
Met some new FemDom friends in the chatroom and they started calling me MissSC and I added Dominia to it.
Thus, MissSCD has arrived meaning Mistress South Carolina Domina.

Regards.

MissSCD

pixelslave  Thats exactly how it happened with us and as soon as he said it it felt just right.  He called me miss being cheeky once on msn and I kinda liked that too so occasionally we use that.  Other people I chat to online who are submissive call me Miss, and have asked me politely firs how I wish to be addressed which  ithink is good manners and sometimes how I weed out the bad ones from people calling me thier most devine mistress[&:] I dont like that at all.
Tammy Jo again I agree its a title that your both earn [:D]

MysticFireTopaz -> RE: Why do you call yourself your chosen title? (3/27/2007 11:58:36 AM)

I usually like to go by Lady, for many of the same reasons as the OP.  However, I don't mind being called Ma'am in certain cases, such as by submissives I am interviewing, but who don't yet belong to me.  I love to be called Mistress (in fact, insist on it) by subs or slaves I actually do own, but will not permit anyone else to use that term.  Goddess just doesn't resonate with me, so I rarely use that term.

GoddessDustyGold -> RE: Why do you call yourself your chosen title? (3/27/2007 2:33:21 PM)

Goddess because it is the basic style of Domination that I prefer.  So it is more for informational purposes than anything else.
I also can be referred to as Ma'am, Milady, Ms or Miss along with My given name.  Mistress only if s/he is in My collar.
I often think that too much is read into a user name, but I am just as guilty.  I get an initial impression from a user name, and I try not to judge based only upon that.  I will at least try to get more info, and the initial impression is often borne out.
So for those who object to the use of Goddess as a title and immediately pass by based upon that...*shrug*.  I know who I am.
