mar282007 -> dumb question... (3/28/2007 12:28:37 AM)

Newbie here with a dumb question, I'm afraid, but it is a quick one. Is femdom pronounced "FEMMEdum" or "femme DAHM" or some other way entirely?

azzmaster -> RE: dumb question... (3/28/2007 12:35:45 AM)

actually the f is silent and so is the m on the end, so the officially sanctioned BDSM version is " em - doe" with the accent on the 1st syllable

I don't know how it's pronounced anywhere else, but back up in my home town in Nor Cal it was considered to be the words Fem and Dom put together and pronounced in that way. *Realizes Fem isn't a word... decides she doesn't care*

When refering to a female dominant we call her a "Dominant".  well actually i call her "Ma'am"

We usually know if the person is female or male so just Dominant works here.  If we need to identify then it is " a female Dominant"

But sometimes i do hear the 'fem-dom' used..  I just wonder why the Dominants need to be identified by gender but slaves or subs are not?

femslave   boysub   femsub  malsub (sounds like a medical condition there)  how about transDom or transslave ?  OMG too much

Domin8tingUrDrmz -> RE: dumb question... (3/28/2007 4:22:20 AM)

I often see the term Domme to refer to a female dominant and Dom to refer to a male dominant.  Most know the difference.

lol... It's not a dumb question; just amusing.

I know that the "dom" at the end of the word "kingdom" is typically pronounced "dum".   However, "kingdom" is referring to a state, a realm or a sphere, over which a king presides.

"Femdom" is used to refer to a person.  It is an abbreviated way of saying "female (feminine) dominant".  Think about how you pronounce "dom".

Of course, if you pronounce "dom" as "dum", I can't help you.   [;)]

Fem and Dom are usually pronounced as two seperate words, like Ford Truck or Snow Day. Fem is sometimes spelled Femme, but pronounced the same way. Dom is sometimes spelled Domme and can be pronouced as "Dom" or "Dom may" or "Dough May", both with the accent on the May.

There is only ONE dumb question....

One that remains unasked.
