I drink diet for other reasons (I'm hypoglycemic) and I said that it's not good for you.
But it is low in calories and fills you up more then water.

Sia the whole point is for the snack to be good for you lol. Diet soda's the fake sugar in it has been prooven to cause cancer with some of the sugar brands. There's also no medical proof diet aids in weight loss, so all the people drinking it thinking it won't affect weight gain are operating on false belifes mostly

Alright I am not even going to touch the many things wrong with this post because let's just say..ice cream..never a part of a healthy snack solution! As far as the many other terrifying statements I have read here well...jesus, i want to get healthy I may have to run out and hit up the buffet..I swear your logic is just as skewed.

As far as the claim that aspartame causes cancer this is in lab rats which ahve ben injected with incomprehensible levels of the chemical..these labratory studies are not indicitive of effects on humans. Now , i will say there is a link between aspartame and frequency of migraine headache but only a small precent of the population actually suffers from legitimate migraines.

Actually, what I *said* was that I will not use *cyclamates* as sweeteners -- I do use aspartame as that is the main ingredient in Equal. As to the "pink" comment, I don't know about all of the States, but here in Canada, all of the pink or yellow fake sweetener packets contain cyclamates, only the blue (Equal) have aspartame, so I stick with the blue and/or carry my own when dining out.

The reason I won't use cyclamates dates back to some discussions I had years ago with a friend of mine who was a neurosurgeon and he had described some of the lab results/photos/etc. that he had seen with his own eyes regarding the long term use of the stuff. That was enough to turn me off of it...

(Just needed to clear up what I think was a misunderstanding of what I had written...)

Snapple has just as many calories and more sugar than even a full calorie soda....just a heads up

I have seen similar photographs when dipping a little into neuroscience. The only reason I still use the stuff is beccause I can either be sick, fainty, shakey, etc from the sugar all the time, or I can suffer the long-term consequences (and don't even think about telling me to just cut out all sugar, I would die [:D] ). I prefer the long-term.

In that case I will add that in 1984 the cac found that cyclamates are not carcinogenic in humans.

Hmm yeah as far as brain scan photos...anyone here drink? Yeah, the long term effects of alcohol on brain tissue are far greater than the effects of artificial sweetners.

Yup, I drink. I guess I'm just screwed. Oh well, die young, make a pretty corpse (I forget who said that, but it's a quote from somewhere) [:D]

I think the one you are looking for is:

Live fast, die young, leave a good looking corpse.

And no, I can't remember where it's from.....

That being said, I rarely imbibe, maybe a glass of sangria once every month or two... But I also have a soft spot for Bailey's Irish Cream. [;)]

siamsa24 -> RE: Good liquid substitions for snacking? (4/15/2005 6:59:09 AM)

Wonderful, thank you. I knew it sounded funny, I'm not very good at remembering quotes off the top of my head.

I didn't mean to make it sound as though I am a lush, I actually only drink on New Years and my birthday with the occasional drink here and there on the weekends in between.

Manawyddan -> RE: Good liquid substitions for snacking? (4/16/2005 5:54:37 AM)

I have read enough independent articles on the harm caused by aspartame that the stuff is not allowed in my house.

For a lw-carb snack, I will have (depending on my mood) either some mixed and/or salted assemblage of nuts and seeds, or maybe just some nut butter eaten either directly from the jar or else on some low-carb bread or cracker.

Here's a recipe from the South Beach board that you might like:

Almond Butter Cookies

1C almond butter
3/4C splenda
2 eggs
1 tsp vanilla
1/2tsp almond extract

Mix all ingredients, roll into small cookie size balls, press 1 almond on each cookie, bake 10-12 min at 375

It also is good with peanut butter and leave out the almond extract and almonds.

FelinePersuasion -> RE: Good liquid substitions for snacking? (4/16/2005 10:10:37 AM)

Actually shy once again you're misrepresenting your facts. Snapple has 24 grams of sugar 100 calories. Soda's have 57 grams that equals about 17 spoons of sugar my friend tells me or more Orangekist. and 190 or more calories. Root beer 46 grams of sugar and 169 calories.

Take the time to read the bottle before spouting off.

FelinePersuasion -> RE: Good liquid substitions for snacking? (4/16/2005 10:16:33 AM)

Proudsub, It does sound good I might try it. We don't least I don't eat cookies or make them except maybe on easter and x mas. Cookies were not what got me over weight like some say lol. It was to much prosessed foods not enough real life activities:))

sub4hire -> RE: Good liquid substitions for snacking? (4/16/2005 11:19:53 AM)

I haven't read all of the responses. Although the physicians I know would tell you to drink juice. You can make sugar free juice. Juice can actually be a full meal.
Great way to de-tox your system. If we all did it a bit more we'd all be much better off.

siamsa24 -> RE: Good liquid substitions for snacking? (4/16/2005 11:35:13 AM)

Bath and Body Works makes an amazingly good detox tea. I don't know if it does any good, but it tastes really good [:)]
