tday in nypd blue a dominatrix was blugioned to death and in another CSI episode someone was labled erotic strangling gone wrong. Her friends actually killed her tho. In the movie boomerang I think it was* don't quote me* a lady is seen being pulled by pony boys through a ceremony.

I believe both of those are reruns. There's a steady stream of BDSM-related material on crime shows now, usually portraying the acts as either dysfunctional or reckless and the characters come across as ...well, not that flattering. I haven't seen them all, though.

Recently "Desperate Housewives" revealed that Rex, who married bitchy-anal-retentive Bree, was submissive. He must have fallen into the trap of marrying a woman who was controlling and demanding, thinking that equated with dominant -- sorry, no go. When he confessed this to Bree to try to patch things up in the bedroom, she was disgusted. They haven't picked that storyline back up in a few episodes, so I take it that Rex isn't getting his submissive "fix" from his wife.

Even better, the train wreck, hilarious "Surreal Life" just wrapped up (but VH1 will probably rerun the episodes in various marathon-runs as they tend to do) featuring former Go-Go Jane Weidlin confessing "I'm a member of the fetish community" -- and in one episode during a date-night there are various acts of domination and submission going on. Fun stuff, but I don't know who might be getting off on seeing "mini-me" spanked.

Master and I have noticed that more and more lately, and you are right it does seem to be in the crime scene shows mostly, one of the shows has a technition who works in the coreners off. and she wears a collar alot, we haven't figured out yet if it is a fashion thing or if it is for real. And some of the reg. shows to are starting to put lite emphasis on the Dom/sub part but not enough so reg people would notice it. That is what we are seeing though.

Kink is eye-catching and curiuos, I think most sexually active and somewhat open people like at least a bit of kink- whether it's ice or blindfolds or handcuffs, fluffy stuff.

I'd love nothing more than for bdsm and Ds to eventually become such a natural part of our culture that no one thinks of it as something to take note of.

Emerald if it did that'd be nice too but then it'd prolly be the cliche thing to say you're D/s because every one else is when the claimer is nto actually.

On a show I haven't even watched that often, Law and Order, I caught part of two shows (reruns) in the last few months just by coincidence that one dealt with a Domina, a male submissive, and a scene gone bad and one a female submissive and a scene gone bad. (Both from what I remember resulting in death.) Quite frankly, although I wouldn't expect them to show us in a good light, but wow.......not even derrogatory would come close and I'm sure the general public would be saying SICK FREAKS loud and clear.

Actually the second one I saw I turned off because the one-liners about kinky play became not only unbelievably offensive to me, but started to make me feel really creepy.........took me long enough to accept my kinky side, don't need mainstream media to bring all that up again.

Be well and play safe,

harmony

Oh people already use that- specially if you're young.

I personally am more than ok with people trying out bdsm just because they are curious and "everyone else is into it." Much preferable to being condemned outright.

There is some stuff on The Shield and it is too raw, wild and powerful to be called just kinky. On the mild side is the former police captain goes to visit a call girl. He starts to get rough, and she backs off and says "You can slap but don't leave a bruise; you can pull hair but don't yank it out; you can choke but don't injure me. I'll show you a safe signal to let you know when to back off." Later it shows their rape scene.

In another episode Det Mackey wanted a street hooker to set up her pimp; she started to give him some hysterical bullshit, and he forced her to her knees and shoved his gun in her mouth saying "Your pimp's my bitch and that makes you my bitch." Yeah, she submitted to that.

Then last night a vice cop who had been trying to be in business with the gang boss got the shit kicked out of him, set up for a murder, and as he's lying on the ground from the beating the boss puts his boot on his neck and says "From now on you do what I say. If I say 'Blow me', you say "Do you want me to lick your balls, daddy.'"

So, Lady Heather on CSI is neat from a lifestyle perspective, but on occasion this strips the "style" out of lifestyle and just shows D/s as life on the streets -- alpha dog rules.

This is also why I narrowly define Ds as personal intimate relationships.

It's not Ds if you do your job at work. It's not Ds if the waiter asks for more water. It's not Ds if a cop bullies you. It's not Ds if a husband makes a decision in a marriage.

Power trips and power manipulation happen in all walks of life- that doesn't mean Ds is in all walks of life. Ds to me is a very specific authority dynamic set up between people.

Now, not-Ds things can still turn people on the same way the Ds things so. Not-Ds things can be used in this way to get attention and lumped together with "bdsm and Ds." But it's not the same thing to me at all.

"To submit" is not "submission," "submission" is the not the same as being "a submissive in a relationship."

Force scenes are so taking-my-work-home-with-me to me.
