Not sure if it's a phobia but I have an irrational fear of clowns. They totally squick me out. Whether actual clowns, or toy clowns they just make me shudder.

I hate lightening. Luckily I live in Cali and we rarely have thunderstorms.

Reading all the responses so far, i now don't think mine are all that weird anymore, lol.

i hate spiders, won't even kill them, i'll either run the other way or call for my hubby to get rid of it for me.  i also freak with beetles and any kind of stinging insect like bees, wasps, etc.

i hateeeeeeeee thunderstorms, will not swim or even step into fresh water unless it's a swimming pool with chlorine and, while i'll swim in the shallower parts of the ocean, hell will freeze over before you get me to swim in deep ocean water.  i have no problems being in deep water on a boat, but swimming in it, forget it!  Complete panic attack, lol.

I once asked my mom why people were so afraid of spiders. She answered, "Because we are often afraid of what we don't understand and who can understand something with eight legs?"

I then asked why the vacuum cleaner made so much noise. She said, "If you were pushed around on the carpet on YOUR face, you'd make noise too."

*chuckle*

*snicker snort* that vacuum one is great!!!!

I would have to agree with the water phobia people. I can only swim where I can see the bottom.

I used to be petrified of spiders but the ones living with me have taken care of that for the most part although they are pretty big ones. They tend to stay in one place and keep my house mostly bug free which is quite amazing if you live in Florida.

Other than that the fact that 'American Idiot' is so popular in American culture scares the unholy bejebus out of me!

my phobia is water, i was named after my aunt who drowned when she was 3, my mom said i used to scream when i was a baby in the bath, i do sometimes wonder if my mother made me this way by making a big deal out of water or if it is a true phobia.

Cheap shoes - you know really cheap plastic horridly made ones. I sweat just at the thought of being made to wear them.

Styrofoam makes me cringe.  i can't stand the sound it makes.  i won't touch it and if something comes shipped in it, like those little styrofoam peanuts, i have to have someone else take whatever is in the box out for me.

I know someone who absolutely terrified of BUTTERFLIES... She sees one and goes into a complete panic attack.
It was so bad that when one got in the shower with her once she began screaming, ripped off the shower curtain, called for her husband and the other three men in the house to come and rescue her. It never dawned on her that she was completely naked and the shower curtain was completely transparent until after the butterfly was captured and OUT of her house.

When she was a young child she had watched the National Geographic show where the man got covered from head to toe in Monarch Butterflies. When she asked her father what he was doing, her father meant it as a joke, he said the butterflies were eating him. She believed him and ran screaming to her mother. She never got over her fear.

That one simple joke gave her a lifetime phobia. Isn't it amazing how the simplest of things can change a persons life sometimes.
