Vendaval -> Constipation drug linked to heart attacks and strokes (3/30/2007 12:54:44 PM)

Yet another sign that the cure is worse than the disease!  [&:]

"Constipation drug pulled at FDA's request"

POSTED: 1:06 p.m. EDT, March 30, 2007

"WASHINGTON (AP) -- Swiss pharmaceutical maker Novartis AG will stop selling a drug to relieve constipation after it was linked to higher chance of heart attack, stroke and worsening heart chest pain that can become a heart attack, U.S. government health officials said Friday."

They link medication with illnesses all the time. My pain killers are linked with heart attacks but they are the only ones strong enough that im not allergic too.
If its not one scare its another!!

No doubt about that, miss t!  I remember potato chips made
with a low fat oil or something that listed, "anal leakage" as
a possible side effect.

Then you get into a whole list of possible side effects from
medications, including stroke, heart attacks and death!

Any medication i've had has had a list of side effects ranging from mild to pretty severe. The favourite that counts me out for medication is having asthma. Its scarey to read the side effects but i have to do it because i'm allergic to certain stuff.
The one occurence that does spring to mind here is when my um was about six months old she got a virus. She was being sick and had a fever etc. The doctor gave her medication but a few hours later she was just getting worse. Turned out they gave me a medicine which had the side effect of vomitting amongst others. My um ended up in hospital for 5 days. Who would give a vomitting child a medicine that was prone to making them sick?

ROFLMAO!!!  [:D]

Aren't there a few deaths every year attributed to heart attacks
caused by straining during a bowel movement?

Course that is way worse once you get some of that
fire-alarm-chili in you.  Chances are if it burns going
down, it will burn going out!

Maybe the constipated should eat the low fat potato chips.  Problem solved.

That is a terrible situation, miss t.  I know about having
to read all the labels on everything because of medical
allergies and asthama, no fun at all.

Did you switch to a different pediatrician?

So; is this company cutting into Ex-Lax's market?  Taking a good market profit share from Ex-Lax...or what?

Tuomas -> RE: Constipation drug linked to heart attacks and strokes (3/30/2007 6:10:19 PM)

Why can't people just eat greens? [:-]

Usually if the FDA pulls it, it's because it needs to be pulled. But there do seem to be an uncommonly large amount of scares in regards to drugs. I atribute that to people not knowing about them.[8|]

ferryman777 -> RE: Constipation drug linked to heart attacks and strokes (3/31/2007 2:13:37 PM)

FDA....not necessarily looking out for you.  The sugar sbsitute powders are a good example of money influencing product being pulled. False reports, conversely effecting the competition.   Ah well...yes, the FDA is beyond reproach. I give up, have it your way.
