Termyn8or -> Pills/meds (3/31/2007 6:20:22 AM)

I read posts about people's medication etc., bla bla this interaction, can't get it up, whatever reactions.

Question is, how many people here simply do not take drugs ? I don't mean recreational drugs, that is a different story. I mean how many people have made a concious decision to no longer be a trustee of modern chemistry ?

Is there anyone out there like me who hasn't taken an aspirin in 20 years or more ? Does anyone find their own cures for their ailments ?

Is there another single person on Earth who simply refuses these concoctions ? Is there ANYONE out there who is not on some sort of medication ?

     I have type 2 diabetes which is mainly controlled with my diet but I do need to take glucofage 500mg once a day to keep my blood sugar from rising when I am stressed, sick, etc. As I lose weight, however, I find it much better to control my diabetes but some people "need" the medication. I have hypothyroidism which is controlled with synthroid 200mcg once a day and that is the highest dosage I can go ..without it, I will continue to gain weight and that will only make me more depressed lol...I take Effexor XR 100mg once a day for my depression/ bipolar/ anxiety disorder/ all the mental probs I have lol...It basically helps me sleep because without it, I can stay awake for days (easy) and that is very unhealthy. Those are the only medications that I am on right now... I do find KELP to help with my hypothyroidism but I still do need my medications and would not recommend anyone going off them without alot of study...I use blue-green algae to help with my weight loss, cinnamon and dandelion root to help with my blood sugar and I'm on a host of other herbals for my over all health..I think herbals can be used "along with " your medications. I do agree, however, that some doctors do over medicate. They wanted to put my children on Ridalin (or however you spell it) and I refused because they do NOT need it...They do, however, get a diet full of SPLENDA rather than sugar and it has helped so much..My youngest gets a diet very low in glutens because he is autistic.

I can't claim to take no meds. Psychological disorders are too dangerous to my health to go untreated.

I do prefer herbal remedies, lifestyle changes, holistic healing, and homeopathic medicines to the chemical cocktails.

If St. Johns Wort was a strong enough anti-depressant I'd take that rather than my current prescription, but it is not.

I commend you for being able to find other solutions, and heartily support anyone who is able to function without chemicals/Rxs.

I don't take any meds (unless you count chocolate [:D]). I don't get headaches often, but when I do, I just ride them out. A few years ago, I had severe gallstones (resulted in a blocked liver & jaundice) which required me to stay in the hospital for two weeks... all I gotta say is that if the pain isn't as bad as what I went through with my evil gallbladder, IT'S FINE!  I suffered through the pain (until it became unbarable & I would go nutty from it) because I really didn't like the way the pain killers made me feel (light & floaty & disconnected [sm=mrpuffy.gif]& completely out of control).

[sm=idea.gif]Hmm... which actually makes me wonder: To all the Dom/mes out there reading this, if you do/don't take (strong) meds, is it due in part (or wholly) to the way they make you feel (side effect)? Do you feel less in control with them, or moreso?
