This might be something silly to ask, or at least I feel a little silly for asking, laughs, I was wondering, has anyone ever gotten an email from a dominant, and it's a wonderful email, and when you were done reading it, you read it over again, then you went to reply and you had a great reply all ready or at least something you wanted to say and when you started to write out the reply, your mind went blank and your great reply went out the window so to speak. Even looking over their profile, I couldn't come up with the reply I wanted. It was just gone and I was totally stumped. What did you do to get over that? Was there anything that you did to help you find what you wanted to say so you could write the reply? It's late and I'm tired. I hope I'm making sense.

I don't know if this would help but you could try writing your letter back in a word program. Write a draft and then walk away for little bit. Play a game, groom you pets, work a puzzle, whatever. After a bit, come back and reread it to see if that is really what you want to say. Rinse and repeat as often as needed. [:)]

greetings adora,

this happens to me often. responses to emails, responses to posts...i think part of it is just my natural state of "blankness" when i face a blank screen (i don't know if all writers suffer from that all the time or if it's just me), and part of it is absentmindedness compounded by fibro fog. i usually close the screen, try not to think too much about it, and go back to it a few hours or a few days later...that seems to help. :)

annabelle.

Adora,

Happens to me all the time... and almost always when I'm halfway through writing a reply to a topic. I start off with a great idea and some sense of a direction... and I look back over the last paragraph to see that I've tangented into something with no idea where I was going in the first place. Drives me absolutely insane.

P.S. Hey, I got a coherent thought out! Huzzah and celebration!

The only way to overcome writer's block in my experience is to just start writing. You may have to write a few versions, but doing nothing will lead to nothing.

If I get a nasty case of writer's block...I will write "begin" at the top...then the rest starts to flow. It's like Julia said, you just have to start writing.

Sometimes it's just the blank page that does me in.

LOL   yes it has happened to me. I leave it for awhile- out of nowhere things start comeing to me so I head back  to the PC and start writing. Then what happens Usually my  PC will have a brain fart and I end up having to reboot and looseing it  all. And it was a Freaking! great reply lol

I write again but it is never as good as the 1st one.
Not much help am I?

Thanks, everyone, you've all helped, I did what you all said and wrote a great reply I think, laughs.

I've had that happen sometimes, though with other things, not with this, and I've wanted to cry and scream, and kick my computer, laughs, I've learned to start things on a word pad and save them as I go along in case it decides to happen and then at least I won't loose much if not loose anything anything at all. You were a help.

Whynot just go with honesty and humor?

I had this amazing mind blowing fabulous response, and then my mind decided it wasn't ready to receive an Oscar yet so it blocked it from my own memory.

I actually hate using Word when writing, and almost always write it out long hand. True, it's a waste of paper, because it almost always gets typed out into a post, e-mail, or some other form of electronic communication.

To the OP:

There's really nothing i can add. All the ideas were great, and incredibly useful.

Good luck!
