TheHeretic -> The Lure of Madness (4/1/2007 10:28:31 AM)

Perhaps it's all the mechanical demolition work I did my early working years.  The temptation to just get the big hammer and be done with it.

I'll catch a bit of news from Iraq and get the same feeling I had the rainy night I locked my keys in the car and kept looking at a rock on the ground, while I waited under a tree for the spare to be delivered.  There is a very easy solution, if we are willing to pay the price.

We could have this Iraq mess settled in about two weeks.  Just CONQUER the motherfuckers with the iron fist.  Tell the PC and the whole world to insert their opinion sideways and dry, turn off the morality and pacify the place.  Rome.  Reprisals.  Public executions.

How long to install a brutal puppet dictator who makes Saddam look cuddly?  Hell, the US already gets accused being terrorists and torturers.  We'll never convince them we AREN'T the Great Satan, so why not simply embrace the role?  We could even insist that we were merely adopting the enemy's rules of engagement.

Because it's an evil path.  Because it would change us forever.  Because we are supposed to be better than that.

Breaking a window on your own car is a dumb solution, but if you are alone in the desert at 120 degrees it's a different story.  What happens when we lose a city?

      I'm not advocating mind you

Tsk, tsk. All this emoting. You must be a mere human.

The issue may be solved in one day: simply have the USA withdraw their murdering and torturing troops and stop fomenting civil war between the sunni's and the Shia.

As for Satan: people mistakenly believe that they will be able to recognize him by his horns and tail and that he is only one guy. Fact is, that Satan is one of the human archetypes and that he may be the next guy you pass on the street and the next and the next - for there may be millions of them. Verily: that uppity guy in Washington is one of them.

As for the next city target: indications are that it will be in Europe and that the western powers that be will scheme to blame some crazy muslims for the atrocity they intend to perpetrate themselves.

Oh this was brilliant sarcastic irony and you guys fell for it.  Its April 1st you guys!  Look at how brilliant he lays out the setup in mid post.  He is mocking Bush and America's actions people, showing us the real truth as only sarcasm and irony can do, he doesn't actually believe this shit, he is just saying this to get your goat!

Come on, we all know that America has overthrown every democracy in the ME, with those that are even close like Iran and Palestine, we oppose and work to overthrow.  He knows that every brutal puppet dictator in the ME was installed by the US or Britain.  This is so over the top I can't believe you guys bought it.

They see us as the great Satan because our actions have been satanic.  We occupy Saddam's torture palace and then use it for OUR torture palace.  We violate every religious tenet we can to fuck with our POWs, oops I mean hostages, I mean enemy combatants.

Thanks for a very funny post, sorry everyone else let it go over their head, but humor this sophisticated doesn't always work on the internet.

C'mon now, Simply, do you really think I'm going to adopt a Nic like this one so I can keep all the ideas I throw out here in a tidy little box of politically correct thought?

I made it pretty clear that I DON'T think this is the right way to handle our (yes, OUR) mess in Iraq, but it's nowhere near as foolish as the Pollyanna approach that if we leave and apologize, it will all be lollipops and rainbows.  The blame game is even less productive than that.

But hey, let's just pretend that the problem will vanish once we get a Dem back in the WH, just like the homeless did during the Clinton administration.

SimplyMichael -> RE: The Lure of Madness (4/1/2007 10:53:47 PM)

If we leave, the Shia will commit genocide against the Sunnis

Tough shit.

You want rough and tumble real world shit?  America can't afford to fix Bush's mistake, we don't have the good will, the money, or the troops to do so.

I actually agree with Bush that setting a timetable for withdrawal which doesn't relate to conditions on the ground is a bad idea. But at least it's an idea to get us out of the incredibly unfixable fucked up mess the Republicans have created. Bush doesn't have any ideas to get us out of it.

Manawyddan, you were cooking with gas there until you called Bush a "Republican."
He's a schill bought and payed for by big business.

SimplyMichael -> RE: The Lure of Madness (4/2/2007 5:47:11 PM)

Popeye,

That's what Republicans ARE!

Are you actually suggesting my "proposal" might become the lesser of evils???  That would blow up the whole region, completely destabilize the oil supply (ie, the whole fucking US economy) and kill millions of people.  After all, it's not like we can force the caribou to adapt or put ugly things in the water that will spoil the surfer's appreciation of nature.

Tough shit.

You're so compassionate.  Makes me want to run right out and vote for your side.

You want rough and tumble real world shit?  America can't afford to fix Bush's mistake, we don't have the good will, the money, or the troops to do so.

You know, we probably aren't so far apart on this issue except for your misconception that our troops went in with a little profile patch of President Bush on their shoulder.  The blame game is nothing but counter-productive and annoying.  This is America's war, but the Dems seem to think it's just their best issue for the next election.  And God forbid that something happens to give us the will, because the Dems are completely naked when it comes to national security and will be finished, permanently.
