I am relatively new here too, and the mail I have gotten runs the gamut from abrupt, to-the-point suggestions to friendly greetings and encouragement. I try to answer all politely and in a respectful manner, for I am responsible for my actions, not anyone else's. I have even messaged a couple of people with questions, since I grow weary in moments of having my own ignorance hanging out there for everyone to see.

If someone responds in a rude manner, it is their issue, not yours. It is no more complicated than that. Or, they are having a wickedly bad day ... heh.

I seriously believe some of the members of collarme do not think other "profiles" are real people.  Just ordinary people like them.  I do not know what they think we are!

Anonymity of the web makes some people do and say anti-social things.  They think there are no consequences.  Thats why it is so funny when private black lists of certain members start circulating.  There are - shock horror - consequences!!

Having gotten lots of complimentary messages and only one actual flirtatious message in my time on CM...Well, in my case, it was easy to spot the difference between that one and all the others.

I like the little ego-boost a compliment about my profile gives me. Being a writer, it's always nice to know somebody enjoyed my work. Sometimes I'll respond, if a question's asked. Usually I'll just let it sit, though.

Subs who run to the end of their chains and bark...Jeeze. I'm lonely, but I ain't that lonely.

Cece, I suspect it's because of differing expectations.  Whomever you're writing may be looking for connections, and you're not.  When they get a message, it equates to "pickup line", when in reality, you're just being nice.  When they find out it's just words and not a pickup line, they're disappointed, and they react badly to that.  Why worry about it?

And this is exactly why most of us dislike that feature or don't bother viewing profiles anymore. 

Hypothetically, if I had something to say to you when I viewed your profile, you'd know it.  I would take the initiative to write and say so, you know....being dominant and all that stuff, I'm not shy.

Some people just don't know how to take a compliment. 
A no strings attached gift of appreciation misconstrued.
Try not to let your generousity be stunted by those that are.
Even if you hit 100 rude twerps in a row, just making that 'nice" one's day is worth it, both to you and the person you reached out and touched, how ever briefly.

Hi Ma`am, There are surely those who view a profile that interests them, then welcome a response.

Personally i view profiles of people whose posts i find interesting.

Heck, I had two letters today in my box from different dommes complimenting me on my profile, my pics, how much they enjoy my posts and journals, and how beautifully I declare my love and adoration to my owner.  I didn't view it as flirting or hitting on me.  It's so nice to receive letters like that...and it's nice to be perved, too! [:D]

I always get complements on my pictures, not my profile. When I first came on this site I got a bunch of messages telling me that I was to ugly to be a Domme and pointing out that I have acne. Now I get a ton of complements on my feet/stilettos.
