Arnold Schwarzenegger or Sylvester Stallone ? Who makes the better movies and why?

Any suggestions of fantasy movies you would like to see?

How about Rocky vs Rambo...The Final Chapter.?

Greetings Sir,

while i believe Rocky to be one of the best sports films ever made, i think the over all body of Arnold's work has been better.  Predator and the Terminator leap to mind as examples; however - i think Vin Diesel, especially in Pitch Black and the Chronicles of Riddick are far better movies/stories and his presence is amazing on screen.

well wishes,

I don't care for either to be honest.

I love Arnold - even though he is known for his action films he is far better at comedy (true lies, twins) than Syl.

bliss

neither

both use old recycled movie formulas which will make money no matter if the movie bombs or not

not a hard one really... i will watch their films if i really must, BUT its no hardship to watch them really.... you do not have to think to watch the films.. abit like watching trashy tv or reading a magazine, you can pick it up and put it down as you please.....

Pardon me while I chime in here; As for which of the two are better; I feel, both are shoddy examples of commericialistic exploitation. The Preditor, and Terminator films, the lead, have been played by anyone; there was no real command of the lead, by Arnold. Just about anyone could have played such a 'wooden' character. In fact, their was just no real, must have Arnold for the lead, type of film. Harrison Ford could have played the lead, the film would be just as good without Arnold....but it wouldn't bring in the mega bucks....which after all is what films are about.

An example of this is his movie, 'Total Recall' which is nothing more than an ongoing commercial for a host of products, the visuals, and at the final scenes where Ronnie Cox introduces the sound only, the naming of the products with no visual. Watching this trash is like 'eye' torture. But, Arnold brings in the big bucks......so, there he be.

The special effects is the real star of the movie; A's preditor, a story, that really didn't need Arnold also...Danny Glover could have done the first prediator replacing the wooden Arnold.

Stallone, at least wrote the Rocky series, and they were more than fair entertainment. Rather inspirational, the struggle of being a no body to getting your shot at greatness. All in all, a viable presentation.

Vin Diesel, is being hyped lllike Arnold was, sticking him in some comical films. Vinny should stay with the action films like his Riddick property. He does command a lead presence; and one can enjoy the action, only dream of doing the stunts that Vin does. A far and away better all around, entertaining hero than the Arnold.

Arnold brings to his  films  an SS nazi type of feeling. In another time, it would be the mythical Aryan Hero conquers over all....the super man of Aryan myth.

i have seen my share of stallone and schwarzenegger flicks. i like them, for the most part. i agree with ferryman that stallone's rocky stories were inspirational tales of glory, but good lord, man, Rhinestone??? and arnold's movies do rely on a lot of special effects, but even the Conan movies he made early on were pretty cool.
i would like to point out that at the time when Total Recall was made, it received a special achievement academy award for visual effects. it surpassed anything made at that point in time, and paved the way for further advances.

edited to get the ridiculous title of stallone's movie correct

Total Recall; yes I know; and the movie is supposed to be one of the biggest earners. All I can say; is, there is no accounting for taste. I liked the robot special effects, but for me; the effects just went down the drain, having to endure all the product tie-ins. When some critics mentioned this, they were responded to with...there were no product tie-ins, what you saw was to make the movie more realistic with actual products......say what? Arnold's contribution to the movie's success factor was simply because of his over-powering popularity, not his talent as an actor.

No one else could have done Conan, Arnie looked like the illustrated comic book hero....so, I could accept that. But the other films, sorry. His comedies were trite, Twins was laughable because of Danny DeVito, and the comparison of the two.

Again, Running Man, could have been played by anyone; there was no special reason for Arnold...Bruce Willis could have easily done the part; he did a really good job in 12 Monkeys. He would have been much more believable than Arnie. But then, Arnold's over-powering boxoffice made the movie.

Arnold also did a western, werein he played a cowboy, sorry crap.

The movies A. did, mostly appeared to be to give him money...and the more popular he became, the bigger attraction, the more his movies sold. For marketing, he is an excellent salesman. The rumors are, if you want a movie to be a blockbuster success, hire Arnold.

A. has been hyped to the max, even in his bodybuilding era, Weider Bros. are responsible for A's greatness. They promoted him as they never have for any of their other bodybuilders, and there are those who put A to shame; a few, winning more titles than the'oak' himself.

IGT, one of the biggest Gaming Companies in the world, have a host of 'theme' slot machines. They were to release a slot...>The Terminator'. It was to be debuted at the Largest gaming convention in the world, in Las Vegas, NV. Arnold's voice was part of the 'slot' presentation. Arnold sued for 20 million, for copyright infringement; IGT pleaded 'no contest' and paid. The Terminator slot, never saw a casino floor, was never debuted, nor introduced anywhere. The slot was only in the conceptual stages.

IGT, has an army of lawyers, and in no way on god's green earth, is it concievable they would have used Arnold's image and voice on anything without having agreements to do so. IGT has other celebrites, before Arnold on their theme machines.

This happened a few months before Arnold started actively going for CA governor.

i don't particularly think stallone or schwarzenegger have heaps of acting talent. stallone will never move away from "yo adrian!" just as schwarzenegger will never move away from "i'll be back." but as you pointed out, schwarzenegger still draws in the crowd. stallone doesn't seem to know when to quit, with all the rocky movies, and now a new rambo coming out???
i like schwarzenegger's movies better than stallone's- with the exception of Over the Top. i like the mild mannered truck driver/good father role he plays. otherwise give me Commando, give me Predator, and i'll even take Last Action Hero for its spoof value.

ferryman777 -> RE: Arnold Schwarzenegger or Sylvester Stallone ? Who makes the better movies and why? (4/5/2007 9:39:57 AM)

Yes, absolutely, Stallone, just is incapable of moving onto anything beyond his Rambos and Rocky stuff; well, can you blame him; they bring in the millions at the boxoffice... they are a tested and proven quatum; so why should he; doesn't have to.

Arnold, does move ahead, now govenator; next, after the consitution is ammended, a possibility moreso than not, he'll be president.

When HumVee wanted into the consumer market, who did they call.....Arnold...he was the first to be given a HumVee... then everyone had to have one; no matter it is the most repaired, and gas guzzling SUV manufactered, and the cost....petagon figures. I still see, in the dupont registry, a Hummer selling for 180, thousand, most now are listed in the 40 + range, for a few year old one.

One thing, Arnold boasts of 'being the first' to accomplish this or that. He thrives upon the idea of coming to american with nothing but a gym bag, and attainting wealth and fame others can only imagine.

I have got to give him reconition......he has friends in high places....he is unstoppable.....all that he wants, he achieves; no shortcall  about him. And...he looks damn good too.

Personally I would not pay to see either of them at the movies. They both suck [:)]

With that said; I did like Arnold in Conan ( the first one ), the role fit him perfectly. And RockyI was good; though I don't think Stallone was all that great in it.

I was not saying either was better than the other; only commenting on the the actors in both

I agree, after being tortured by 'Total Recall'; I vowed never to pay to see another Arnold movie, ever. Now, I won't have to, it seems, only now, he is for real.
