Hi,
i'm looking for an article about the connection AND the difference between the two scenes... so far i came up with different short info paragraphs that explain the connection:

http://www.informedconsent.co.uk/encyclopervia/Goth
Goth is a modern subculture (with links to the Fetish and BDSM scene) that gained visibility during the early 1980s within the gothic rock scene, a sub-genre of post punk, and continues to this day. It is associated with gothic tastes in music and clothing. Styles of dress range from gothic horror, punk, Victorian, fetish, cybergoth, androgyny, and/or lots of black. Since the mid-1990s, styles of music that can be heard in goth venues range from gothic rock, industrial, punk, metal, techno, 1980s dance music, and several others.

Are BDSMers All Goths?Again, no not all BDSMers are goths, nor are all goths BDSMers (although, of course, some BDSMers are goths).  One of the things that probably leads people to equate goth with BDSM is the proliferation of BDSM paraphernalia that goths may wear as part of their attire (e.g handcuffs, wrist cuffs), as well as clothing that is associated with the fetish scene (e.g. PVC, leather, rubber, corsetry, collars).  Although many goths may be into BDSM or be active on the fetish scene, many will have little or no clue about BDSM or have any desire to partake in BDSM related activities.

What is the relationship of BDSM to the goth scene?
There are fetish goths who participate in the BDSM world. BDSMers will show up to goth clubs, especially if they're advertised as "goth/industrial." Participants in the BDSM community are unusually respectful for the obvious reason: things can otherwise go badly quickly. New people "learn the ropes" at house parties designed for that purpose. They are taught "safe words" to end a session and how to avoid actual injury. Because of this overhead, BDSMers tend to avoid the uninitiated at club.
Fetish fashion has influenced goth fashion. Goths who are completely ignorant of the BDSM scene often wear leather collars and other fetish paraphernalia.

http://www.gothicsubculture.com/definition.php
BDSM: Represents Bondage, Discipline, and Sado-Masochism (also related, Dominance & Submission = DS). It is a form of sexual fantasy play between consenting adults often involving fetishes, focusing on mental, sensual and erotic experience over the standard sexual intercourse, and requiring a great level emotional trust and communication between partners. BDSM does not have anything to do with using pain or force on someone who is an unwilling victim. Although Gothics tend to appear to be familiar with the practices of bondage by their apparel, most of those people wearing vinyl pants and bondage bracelets don't know the first thing about BDSM and are following a fashion trend. The majority of BDSM practitioners have nothing to do with gothic, and they view bondage gear as a tool, not an accessory.

bondage goth, bdsm goth, s&m goth - PVC dominatrix bitch, claimed and collared subs, adorned by whips and chains and all sorts of toys. 90 percent of them wouldn't know how to use these items if their life depended on it, but darn it they wear them anyways!

greetings,

i'm aware that there's a crossover, just as with fantasy/sci-fi, etc., however most of the bdsm practitioners i know offline are not goth, and most of the goths i know aren't into bdsm. most of the fantasy addicts (other than myself) i know online are also not into bdsm, although there are a few exceptions. also, the first person who ever commented on my collar when i was with my previous dominant actually made the association because of his experience with furry subculture, not bdsm.

The basis of Gothic culture is the idea of seeing or finding beauty in things most of the world finds repugnant or ugly.
Thus the similar counter intuative mindset of "pain is pleasure" is a natural cross over zone.

For me I have not seen much crossover except for thoes that are already BDSM oriented to start with.  Most go to the Goth clubs as there are more of them than BDSM clubs in the country.
