I don't care if they're drunk or sober, illegal aliens shouldn't be in our country, period.
What did Geraldo mean by saying that , "those people were lured here?"

I'm not sure what he meant. But I do know I like the disagreement, I like to see the two sides presented, unlike some others here. Hell, I even like the passion they showed - that's good stuff. It means they're being real.

You are a sharp guy...You know the answer...Employers defintely look the other way and rely on the illegals to complete their work force for low wages.....Right?

wfsubseeking1 -> RE: Geraldo Rivera and Bill O'Reilly (4/6/2007 8:57:14 PM)

i apologize but Geraldo's point was that it wasn't about illegal immigration but about drunk driving.  This wasn't a place to use the rhetoric you believe about illegals.  my only other comments seem to be redundant in my thoughts.

"Rhetoric?"
Ah, it just happens to be the law of the land.

wfsubseeking1 -> RE: Geraldo Rivera and Bill O'Reilly (4/6/2007 9:06:54 PM)

Sir why not bring out Your disparaging remarks about illegal immigrants and its outcome on the economy or other things but not about a problem that kills others such as drunk driving.  That isnt a problem with illegal immigrants it is a worldwide problem and that was the point that Geraldo was trying to make. This is not a political move to make on illegal immigrants but anyone who does it.

It is when illegal aliens are killing 12-15,000 U.S. Citizens in this country every year.

Where is the  source for this...Again popeye I think you are a sharp guy,,,Just curious as to where this start is derived from?

One more point I doubt that Bill is going to ever tout when an illegal does something "nice" for anyone...I understand that they are here illegally but  Geraldo is not that off base by saying that they have been lured here by the promise of low paying jobs, employers more than willing to utilize their services and a government that for the most part has looked the other way.

The problem is not with the majority of the illegals who come here seeking employment...But with the employers who hire them and a government that doesn't seem to care.

caitlyn -> RE: Geraldo Rivera and Bill O'Reilly (4/6/2007 10:29:58 PM)

General response ...

I'm for a guest worker program, because I think it's a realistic solution to the problem.

That said, I don't see this as a drunk driving issue, instead of an illegal alien issue. It is a drunk driving by an illegal alien issue.

I would say to Popeye though ... that if he would just support the guest worker program, this guy would have been deported after his first offense, and the victim would be alive today.

SusanofO -> RE: Geraldo Rivera and Bill O'Reilly (4/6/2007 11:07:59 PM)

To further variegate the responses on this thread, I will add that my state is currently considering issuing Driver's licenses to illegal immigrants. The reasoning seems to be that "since they drive anyway, we may as well issue them licenses."

I dunno, it just seems to have some holes in it, as far s being a good enough reason (to me).

I can see a guest-worker program, though and do think it's a nice reality-based compromise to all of the illegals who are probably going to find their way here no matter what. At least we will know the are here, and at least then the will have work, and work U.S. citizens don't seem to want to do, that they seem tobe grateful to get. Frankly, I don't see any problem with that solution at all.

"Two men say they are Jesus, one of them must be wrong."  Dire Straits.

I am not sure it means they are being real.  It is entirely possible that this is simply a pissing contest between two people who are both wrong.

SusanofO -> RE: Geraldo Rivera and Bill O'Reilly (4/6/2007 11:19:38 PM)

Uh-huh. I agree. Or who have over-sized egos and like spouting off on television, about whatever they get paid to spout off about, regardless of whether or not it makes sense (or is sometimes probably even researched, at all.)

My burning question, really, though, is: Why hasn't there been more tv coverage of the dilemma of who the real father is, of Anna Nicole-Smith's baby? I am truly feeling robbed by the lack. I can't imagine the networks being so remiss in not including more coverage about this problem, which is so obviously crucial to so many people around the globe.

I wanna job as a tv news program director. If I got one, I'd promise to try to find some real news. I am thankful though, for the Discovery channel, and CNN, and the Food network and the Travel and History channels.

But maybe,as far as some of the tv "news" cable networks (especially FOX, IMO), if they don't want to pay for a better program director, they could just have people around the U.S. call in about the real news happening where they live, and give away prizes for the best weekly story, or something?

There must be a solution to this dismal "news" programming, as of late. I simply cannot bear many more evenings with re-hashed "news"about Anna Nicole's poor baby's fate, on the so-called cable "news" channels.

Nice to see a few folks willing to dispute the conclusions of the O'Reilly bashers. To those that believe that the commentators that support Mr. Olberman's positions look a little deeper. See if they have ever supported ideas from the "other side". Most of these commentators lean strictly one way as do many news outlets. I want someone to give me both sides and let me make up my own mind. Bill O'Reilly does and despite his flaws he makes the effort to get it right. Illegal aliens have been in the news lately for commiting numerous crimes including the murder of a Denver police officer. The link is any crime not just drunk driving. If I'm not mistaken there was a recent announcement that over 1/3 of the Calif. prison population is illegal aliens and that costs us a bundle! As for Anne Nicole watch an entertainment program to get your"fix."

Sir nice to see someone else is a fan.  i have my parents hooked on him.  Not sure whether i liked him better on sportscenter or countdown.  His show shows a totally different insight on the news.  Things you never hear about elsewhere.

I liked him on Sportscenter too [:D]. Him and Dan Patrick were a great team.

Who does overman ever have on who disagrees with him, like O'Reilly had Geraldo on. Or is that why all you O'Reilly bashers LIKE overman - because he's all Leftist, all the time

Speaking for myself, I'm not "all leftist, all the time", so there goes that theory.

Bill O Reilly and Jerry Springer are clear examples of the high quality of US television - it goes down hill in terms of intellectual content and balanced reporting after these two.................  :)

Also please feel free to read some of the statistics about Fox News watchers

quote:

A new study based on a series of seven US polls conducted from January through September of this year reveals that before and after the Iraq war, a majority of Americans have had significant misperceptions and these are highly related to support for the war in Iraq.
The polling, conducted by the Program on International Policy (PIPA) at the University of Maryland and Knowledge Networks, also reveals that the frequency of these misperceptions varies significantly according to individuals’ primary source of news. Those who primarily watch Fox News are significantly more likely to have misperceptions, while those who primarily listen to NPR or watch PBS are significantly less likely.
An in-depth analysis of a series of polls conducted June through September found 48% incorrectly believed that evidence of links between Iraq and al Qaeda have been found, 22% that weapons of mass destruction have been found in Iraq, and 25% that world public opinion favored the US going to war with Iraq. Overall 60% had at least one of these three misperceptions.

Again, I do not like tv news at all

Networks need money, so they need advertisers, and  to get them, they require as many viewers as possible.  Networks know what the majority of people want to see.  Sadly, our society wants to see the Bill O'Reillys and the Jerry Springers and to learn the possible fate (over and over ) of Anna Nicole's baby.

When society sharpens up, so will the quality of the news.
