I must say that I'm just not too engaged with the Sopranos anymore, but I will faithfully watch it to its conclusion.

Seems to me the start of this final season was about:

I. The separate (but not so separate) worlds of mob violence and mob family life.

II. What's it all for? Tony's short answer was RISK / REWARD, with the subtext was the longer you go in such a life, the more risk you mount up and more vulnerable you become. (Of either ending up dead or behind bars.)

I just wish I cared a little more about these characters, but I don't.

HBO's warchest is looking pretty empty to me right now, as SFU, The Sopranos, Rome, and Sex in the City have all concluded.

To my mind this leaves Big Love and Entourage as its only remaining headline shows.

I don't watch The Sopranos on a regular basis, but my uncle does, and so does my dad. They are both faithfully watching, too. I do like Lorraine Bracco (sp) as an actress (I think she plays Tony's wife?).

I suppose if someone grew up living inside the mob, they wouldn't know any different way of life. I think a lot of people want a peek inside, because it is unfamiliar, and gives a personal-type of view, as far as ideas like reacting to raw power, and people having to deal in a stark way with concepts like good vs. evil, etc., and this show is a fascinating way to examine those things, I imagine.

Then again, for many it is probably pure entertainment only. It it very popular with a lot of folks.

Maybe towards the end of a show's run, the writer's figure they are going to be out of work soon, and the shows become less riveting, because the writers aren't putting as much gusto into their work? I do know their writers realize this is the show's last season, and maybe that has something to do with it, if the show is now less exciting than it used to be.

I don't have HBO any longer, but I will catch in on A&E eventually.

I'm not a big television person, but Sopranos was one show that I did enjoy. It's just so stereotypical that it's actually funny to me.---so typical Jersey-Italian. I can't not relate to it.

Susan: Lorraine Bracco plays the shrink. His wife is played by Edie Falco.

Oh okay, thanks for the correction. I like Lorraine. Edie has blonder hair, I think, now that I remember. No opinion on her, I didn't see her enough, I guess.

Poor cloudboy is probably wondering if anyone who actually watches the show on a regular basis is going to write in - but I was just trying to be supportive by responding at all. Don't worry, cloudboy, somebody who watches the show a lot will probably write in!

Cloudboy, I think you're right about HBO.
Their cupboard is getting very bare!
I tried to watch that "Entourage" show and after ten minutes I had to change channels. What a waste of time.
It sucked!

If I could be any female character on The Sopranos, I think I'd want to be the shrink. (I know it's fantasizing, but cut me some slack, I do some community theater, once in a blue moon.) I do like Lorraine Bracco, and think she is a wonderful actress.

Actually, as a Switch, I can fantasize about being that character, too...even if face-slapping per se isn't for me, I imagine him really being rough, generally, and it can make me feel woozy.

When I lived in Chicago, I remember it was really pretty easy to get a job as an "extra" on a film, if you had the "look" they wanted, etc. I didn't have the time, as I worked during the day, but it I think could work, for someone.

If this sounds insane, I blame it all on the Easter ham I had for dinner.

marieToo: I think he might be watching The Sopranos (really). He will be back. Maybe he has to get up early, or something. Maybe he is waiting for the folks who watch to write in. I hope they do.

A lot of men seem to watch that show, maybe more than women, IMO. My father is absolutely hooked. Do you think, if you think it's true, that this has to do with the "raw power" factor of the male characters? Have you noticed more men watching it?

You know, Susan, I have noticed that men just adore this show.
There is enough power and testosterone to power a football team

Well..I have a bit fetish for the mob, haha! they're powerful, dangerous, they dress well, they eat stolen lobsters that fall off of trucks!

And they cook huge pots of Sunday gravy! Hello, what's not to love?

I've been watching The Sopranos in reruns (currently in season 2, on A&E Wednesday nights), Dishnetwork had HBO preview over the weekend, so I was able to catch the episode last night. I have become a huge fan.

What a bore. I did like Phil Leotardo getting his skull crushed under a truck though. Cute moment.
