"A BBC international opinion poll suggests there is widespread disquiet about the United States' role in Iraq and its other foreign policy priorities. The BBC's Jonathan Marcus analyses the results. "

WE are the 300 lb gorilla... Say what?

[and shame on such pomposity... or what all else comprises such attitude]

...something about Pride and falling... or something... Ooh! Shiny!

Wow, they speak for the world.  I am sure the people of Darfur are desperate for more talking.

Gee, no mention of paying back all the "foreign aid" money we've given them?
I'm LISTENING, I don't hear anything.

Amazing thing really...Statistics that is...
26,000 people in 25 countries can speak for 6 billion people in 200 countries. Simply an amazing feat.

Yet people still flock to this country by the millions per year.

Yeah, and that shit needs to end too.
We took in 3 million people last year legally, more than all other countries combined on earth.
As for what people in foreign countries think that's their business.
I doubt we'll change our policies because a few guys drinking beer in a Pub somewhere in Europe or Asia think we should.

Did anyone read the link?

The issue is the view of the US engendered in the most recent period and is more about how Bush has handled things, than any general dislike for the US or especially its citizens. The poll includes response from US citizens incidentally, on the same questions, and show disapproval even in this section of the sample, for the way things have been handled.

The headline should have been "listen more is the world's message to Bush - US voters agree".

We're not sensitive enough. We never bring flowers anymore... and football is more important. Is that a muddy boot on my good carpet? Where are you going...

Are the European countries impotent?

The world will bitch, whine, and moan that that the U.S. isn't doing anything for Darfur.  We'll be accused because they don't have anything we need (e.g. oil - of course, neither did Somalia and we went there)

THEN ... if we do send troops; the World will bitch, whine and moan that we have troops there and that we are an occupying force.

THEN ... we'll leave before things are settled (because that's what the World wants) and the World will bitch whine, and moan that we didn't do enough and left those people without making sure everything was working 100%.

NO THANKS!  Maybe Europe (especially France who think they run Europe) should start policing the troubled spots in the world.  Over the last couple of decades, the world has complained about how the U.S. is being the "World Cop" (and yes, that includes the Clinton years), maybe it's time others do the job and show us how it's "supposed" to be done.

Hey meatcleaver, isn't it time for the Netherlands to show what they have to offer?

popeye1250 -> RE: "'Listen more' is the world's message to US" (4/11/2007 8:59:54 AM)

Europe couldn't even handle Bosnia and Kosovo!
And it was right in their back yard!
Gee, I wonder how that 60,000 man "rapid reaction force" in Europe is comming together?
I want to see my Troops put along the Mexican border before they're put anywhere else.

missturbation -> RE: "'Listen more' is the world's message to US" (4/11/2007 9:20:03 AM)

Is it simply the Bush administration's foreign policy or the whole image of America that is unpopular?
Comparable surveys suggest that there is still strong support around the world for the values enshrined in US society.

Well judging by the replies in this thread it doesn't look like anyone is really listening. The replies in this thread which have taken the article as a direct attack on all things american prove that to be so.

Oops didn't see this before i posted.
How could i miss your post lol.
I think all we will get here is an attack on the countries who took part in the poll. You have to want to listen to really hear and by the responses so far...

the arragent adinistration, once said, all knowledge does  not exist within washington dc.

the curreent arragaance has provoked me to think of past us actions.

the worlld watched 2004 election. in disbeleief.

i   think there is still a handfull of ppll on katrina roofs....

You hit the nail on the head, Lady Ellen.  This article confirmed
what I had heard from other people who live abroad.  After
9/11 almost the entire world was behind us and supporting
of our citizens.  The current administration's policies have
badly damaged the reputation of the US both at home and
abroad.

I think ICP has the same opinion I do about this topic.
