Hi,

I am totally new to everything that is BDSM. I know I have a strong interest in bondage (as is being restrained) but that's about it. A lot of times I hear about sex being a part of it, but I am not interested in sex. I have always labelled my interest as being in "bondage without sex". I am mainly pleased by the ideas of being restrained, having things (collars, etc.) locked on my body, and the helpless feeling that comes from being unable to escape. I have yet to practice this; these are just my fantasies. I would like to learn more about BDSM to see if it is what I am interested in, and to perhaps learn a bit more about the terminology (for example, who is a "switch" or what is the difference between a "submissive" and a "slave"?). I have an interest in self-bondage, keyholding, and those kinds of things. I am always in search of the perfect timing device for self-bondage (does it exist?). Please fill me in.

Thanks

If you do a search of the message boards you will find many threads concerning self-bondage, keyholder, the difference between submissive and slave, and many other topics you might be interested in.

Simply reading the message boards will be very educational. Heck, and you might even make some friends too.

Dear qwer,

While I may not be the most experienced, I am also not a newbie. With that said, I think a "brief introduction" to BDSM is like asking to sum up the encyclopedia in a few paragraphs.

If I may suggest: read, read, read, read, read. Start with the forums here. There is a lot of basic information here on the threads. Then when you begin to talk to people, hopefully both face to face in real time as well as online, you will have some basic knowledge and information to talk about. Not to mention that the more information you have, the more you will be able to recognize those who may not be what they claim to be.

I'm not sure I'm in the majority -- but for me, it's a learning process and one I'm continually doing and probably always will.

Spend some time at the computer or at Amazon finding books, read, and then find others to talk about with your questions and comments and thoughts on what you have learned.

Be well and play safe,
harmony

I have a collection of links that you might find useful in my Yahoo group.
From your question about definitions, I suggest you visit this one first.
