Yeah, I send one-liners too... its always about getting some kind of dialogue going. I'm not looking for anyone, so I don't feel the need to please anyone or make any sort of application (!)... sometimes I like someone's profile and i'll make a comment on it and wish them luck.

People write to me now and then... often there's not much in the way of content... and I just respond appropriately. I mean... people have their pic/profile on a site and there's a way to contact... contact is going to be made.

I don't think it's really much of a crime.

I don't consider it stupid or lazy, either. I tend to lean more towards the belief that they would like to start a dialogue, but perhaps aren't exactly sure what to say to get things started. If they send a one liner...they have a chance that the person they are sending it to might actually get the conversation started.

best regards,
fate

Ok that totally doesn't make sense. You don't think they're stupid or lazy.. but they send a one liner and have a "chance that the person they are sending it to might actually get the conversation started"..

To me thats a lazy-assed way of shirking the responsibility of conversation onto someone else. I don't feel its my responsibility to take up the slack for someone else's lack of communication skills.

One liner to me are because of one of these three things.
1. Laziness
2. Complete lack of understanding of what consists as proper etiquette in communication. (stupidity or social moron)
3. They're not that into me in particular and just sending out "nibblets" to as many people as they can in hopes of a response. (aka desperation)

None of which I care to associate with.

I don't send one liners for any of those reasons. For me I do exactly what I would do if I saw someone offline and wanted to chat, I'd go up and say "Hi, how are you?"

One line.

Now, I personally rarely ever respond to one liners, their profile doesn't interest me, I can tell what they want and it won't match with what I want. If someone does the same to me, no big deal.
