"March 30, 2007— They are no longer the enfants terrible of the film world, but they are still taking wild risks. Fifteen years after bursting onto the movie scene with their popular independent films "Reservoir Dogs" and "El Mariachi," film auteurs Quentin Tarantino, 44, and Robert Rodriguez, 38, have teamed up for their sixth and most ambitious collaboration, "Grindhouse," a gory, cheeky, campy double-feature that seeks to re-create a night at a cheesy movie theater circa the 1970s. Off to see Grindhouse this afternoon. I just hope Rodriguez has a new story to tell because his first three were basically El Mariachi reshot over and over. Not that I'm expecting great literature but I don't want to be taking an involuntary siesta halfway through any "action" movie.

Grindhouse is awesome- Rodriguez was brilliant in his contrast between old style film making and current movie culture, playing on the clichés of the genre until they become hysterical was awesome, Freddy rivals Bruce Willis in screen presence and Rose McGowan really just can’t act, even when she’s supposed to be acting badly. Tarantino reaches his ultimate point of resembling Stephen King in drawing out the point of inevitability so slowly that we cease to care about the payoff. At least in prior films we had the enjoyment of the contrast of situations- gangsters talking about Big Macs in France. This was just boring people talking about boring crap. And the annoyance of the car chases- how many chances did they have to just SLOW down or turn off into a field or another road??

Greatly enjoyed Austin points of interest shown in Death Proof, that’s where I live people!!

Hi Zensee,

You won't be falling asleep during this film. Don't be eating pizza
or anything with lots of tomato paste if you have a weak stomach
though. The zombie scenes are pure B-movie horror gross.
