"Team accepts DJ's racism apology"

Last Updated: Friday, 13 April 2007, 22:36 GMT 23:36 UK

"The women's basketball team at the centre of a row over broadcaster Don Imus has accepted his apology for his use of racist language about them.

Mr Imus met the Rutgers team late on Thursday, hours after he was dismissed by US television and radio network CBS.

Their coach said the team was "in the process of forgiving" and hoped the row would be a catalyst for change. "

Greetings Mistress Vendeval,
that is such a joke.  This girl thinks they would have looked petty if they had chosen to not accept it lol.

best wishes,

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - U.S. Secretary of State
Condoleezza Rice said on Friday that radio host Don Imus' comments about the Rutgers University women's basketball team were "disgusting" and she was pleased he was fired.

Imus called the women players "nappy-headed hos" -- racist, sexist remarks that resulted in a barrage of protests and ultimately in the outspoken host losing his CBS Radio show, which was also televised.

"I'm very glad that there was, in fact, a consequence. I think that this kind of coarse language doesn't belong anywhere in reasonable dialogue between reasonable people," Rice said in an interview with syndicated radio show host Michael Medved.

Rice, the first black female U.S. Secretary of State and a former college professor, said the young women Imus targeted were fine athletes trying their best.

"It gets ruined by this disgusting -- and I'll use the word 'disgusting' -- comment which doesn't belong in any polite company and certainly doesn't belong on any radio station that I would listen to," she added.

Asked how she handled racist, sexist comments directed her way, Rice laughed and replied: "I'm a big girl. I can take care of myself. And I really don't care because, you know, I'm a mature woman."

Let’s see, disgusting comments on a satirical radio show or blatant incompetence during tenure as one of the top leaders of a country.

Hmmm...

I’ll be happy when Condoleezza Rice is fired.

Bush has turned his whole Cabinet into objects of derision because he's an idiot and makes them support his views.  i have a feeling Condi is sorry she ever accepted Bush's job offer.

Interesting article in Esquire a few months ago about Condi and Powell convincing AnencephalyBoy to not put up his dukes and try to pick a fight with China.

The article wasnt really about that, though.  It was about the fact that this was a major accomplishment by two educated black people that had a huge impact on the world as we know it, and yet media that caters to black people didnt bother to mention anything about their accomplishment.

Made the point that while black culture tends to trash white culture for not helping black people advance, the fact that black people dont hold accomplished, educated, powerful black people in high esteem does not help much.

I could see the writer's point.

Sinergy

p.s. Which is not to say that I personally have much regard for Condi or Powell, but there ya go.
