It doesn't take too much surfing about the internet to find a lot of sites selling videos (dvds now) and downloads of BDSM "films."  Given the number out there, it seems they're probably pretty popular.

I'm curious about the views of people here on these films.  Brash exploitation?  Unrealistic junk?  Inspiring cinema?  All of the above, perhaps?

If you're in a D/s relationship, do you view them with your partner, and perhaps use them to get ideas?

I personally like BDSM videos when they have my friends in them, and that's just b/c I'm smarmy and think it's funny.

I think when Kinsey did his studies, 1 out of 10 adults admitted to some form of kink. Times are changin, and you have to realize that probably at least 1 out of 10 did it but didn't admit it. Kink is big, lots of people do it. BDSM videos are just smart business - they are selling what turns people on to the people who buy porn for whatever reasons they buy porn.

Since I'm IN a few BDSM videos, I don't think it's exploitation. I do think that depending on who makes the video, they can give those w/no experience w/ the lifestyle stereotypes and preconceptions that have to be broken down when/if they join the lifestyle. But then so can magazines, books, and erotica online.

And I can verify that some are great, some are art, some are sexy, some are B movies, some are unrealistic junk, some are unrealistic hot OMG fantasies.

Yes, yes and yes. I've seen some pretty wierd shit in these videos that actually turned out to be a whole lot of fun.

There are some videos that are clearly done by BDSM folks for BDSM folks, with creativity, sensitivity, and passion, and there are a lot more that are complete and total garbage. i've certainly gotten ideas from a few of the former.

i prefer not to watch videos of BDSM scenes...they're usually professional Doms/Dommes working with professional bottoms and the scenes aren't always true to how they'd really happen in a real dungeon. If i want to watch a scene, i can go to the local dungeon and watch one with people i know and trust and respect. So much better than watching fake scenes with people i don't know.

i watch BDSM videos. i agree that there is a whole kind of range out there. From true lifestylists to totaly FAKE crap.
The real ones are harder to find.... but totaly worth looking for!
i never join websites or download videos which were made by someone other than the person who participated in the video. It tells a lot.....

I only watch videos for informational purposes.[:D]
Really i do watch  mainly for ideas or to jumpstart my imagination( which is sometimes hard after a long day of work). I stay away from professional  videos.

I also like to make my own videos and rather be making it then watching it.

Well, look who's here! Nice to see you again.

I have never seen a BDSM video I liked with the exception of one by Ona Zee, but that was only because it was in German. When I saw it again in English, and could understand what the dialogue was, I hated it. Maybe I would be a fan of silent BDSM films.

I also think that the FemDomme films are fine for male fantasy fulfillment, but usually bear no resemblance to what happens in real life.

WOW!!! You hit it right on the head when you mention do I view BDSM clips/videos. My first inception into this lifestyle was from those adult book store. When I became fed up with all of those vanilla's porn, I found myself gravitating towards the BDSM section of the store. First it was the foot videos. And before I knew it, whips and female dominating men became my new high/desire. Granted, I never allowed anyone to know of my new found feeling, yet I always had a means to feed my hunger.   Years late I find my self on the Internet for the sole purpose of viewing more contents along the line of my fetish. Thanks for the responses everyone.  This has probably been done before, but if you have particular favorites, why don't you let us all know what they are.  Nothing like a good review/ recommendation.

Anything to get new ideas is always a good thing.

(Of course I say that even though I haven't been in a relationship, however that doesn't stop me from wanting ideas.)

I have to say I enjoy porn videos of most kinds and I become interested in those lifestyle ones....however I get very dissappointed when there is a lot of role-play and spankings/whippings but no sex...its like its missing the climax. Seems like few videos have the two together for some reason....mostly European bdsm or more undergrouns less well known videos. Just my view on this...
However on those that mix the spankings/role-playing and sex all in one, I find inspiring...

I always video all of my session, scenes whatever you want to call them.
They all have whipping, spanking, hair pulling, strapon, facesitting with
some from of sex in them.

Always have a good laugh when watching them a few years later.
