Rich, I had a career change, due to injuring my back. I had always done jobs that required a lot of physical labor -- pipefitter, laborer in a shipyard, roofer, etc, and after getting hurt, I had no idea what I was going to do. After being off work for a couple of years, having back surgeries, I began job hunting in earnest. Nada. No previous office-type employement, and being a guy, and having the injury history, all made finding a job hell.
One day, I got lucky (or, as I tend to believe, God nudged everything into place, and I did my part in taking a risk).
A lady that worked at the local unemployment office was helping me look for work. Her next door neighbor was also a Judge in our county. She suggested that I could go to the court and do a little work there, for no pay, to be able to have something on my resume, if nothing else.
"No pay...."..... kind of sucked, but I said yeah, why not.
That was November of 2001, and I've been there ever since (with pay, retirement, and benefits, after almost a year [:D]). It was hard making it, but it's a job I love, and it was well worth the time, to me.
So, any suggestions from me, would include patience, and perserverance. Good luck, pal, I think you'll do fine wherever you end up.
