"Northeast prepares for major storm"

By HEATHER HOLLINGSWORTH, Associated Press Writer
Sat Apr 14, 6:29 PM ET

"By Saturday afternoon, the system was spreading rain from Louisiana to Virginia and across much of the Ohio Valley. Lines of strong thunderstorms rolled across Louisiana and Mississippi into northern Alabama, and the National Weather Service posted tornado warnings for wide areas of Mississippi and some parts of Alabama.

The weather system was forecast to strengthen when it reaches the East Coast on Sunday and form a nor'easter, a storm that follows the coast northward, with northeasterly wind driving waves and heavy rain.

"This is very odd for this time of year," National Weather Service meteorologist John Koch said Saturday in New York. "This is something that you would expect to see more in the middle of winter."

A flood watch was posted for the New York City region, as the weather service forecast 2 to 4 inches of rain Sunday with wind gusting to 50 mph. Snow and sleet were possible inland, Koch said.

The combination of rain, onshore wind and the approach of one of the spring's highest tides on Tuesday could add up to significant coastal surges, Koch said.

The New York National Guard alerted units that might be needed for emergency work, and Long Island's Suffolk County told emergency workers to be ready for possible duty. "

Aw, man.. are you fucking kidding me???

Doesn't Mother Nature understand that I have landscaping to do? Soil to turn? Annuals to plant?

Seriously annoyed here

Me too! I have 3 huge tables covered with rose bushes, herb, vegetable and flower plants that want real sun, not just a grow light.

untamedshysub -> RE: "Northeast prepares for major storm" (4/15/2007 6:48:17 AM)

Its snowing here  and was colder on Easter than at Christmas, I am so sick of snow.

Fnordstrum -> RE: "Northeast prepares for major storm" (4/15/2007 7:24:30 AM)

I don't think I could ever get sick of snow.. I love snow... I mean sure biking in snow isn't the best, and it's been many years since school and the possibility of snow days, which were always awesome, but, I still like snow...

I'd rather have snow than rain any day, heh.

As far as biking goes, wind is my least favorite weather, rain is my second least favorite.

(Why is wind worse than rain?.. Because you're going along at around maybe 20 miles per hour, then suddenly you get a 20+ mile per hour gust of wind, and suddenly you can barely even move forward slowly.. So yeah).

Fnord.

MistressDoMe -> RE: "Northeast prepares for major storm" (4/15/2007 9:16:12 AM)

I noticed a few years ago, that winter is getting longer.
Spring and summer's are getting shorter in the North East.
I don't go by the calendar any more I go by the temperature.
We have about 4-5 months really nice weather, period in the North East.
This year we will be lucky if we have 4 months of warm weather.
Cold weather is becoming the norm for 8 months of the year in the North East.
I stopped buying a lot of summer clothes and buy more clothes that I can
wear year round.

Must be a slow weekend for news, the media's got yet another "storm of the century" story going on, *yawn*.  I'm on the coast in southern New Jersey.  We have rain, a lttle wind, a few big gusts, but that's it.   Oh wait, another gust went by.  Maybe I better head for the storm cellar....[;)]

Nope.  Quiet outside, just a few raindrops.  I hear birds singing.

Haven't heard anything about how our Governor "Click It or Ticket, Oops, I wasn't wearing my seatbelt and have about 20 broken bones now" Corzine is doing, though.  Guess it's hard to report on real news when there's a monster storm puffing asthmatically outside.

Lorelei115 -> RE: "Northeast prepares for major storm" (4/15/2007 9:44:11 AM)

We've got about an inch of snow so far, and it still coming down thick and fast.

I suppose we were in for it... after all November through January were so mild and nice.. everyone was saying how odd it was that the winter was so warm... Turns out Mother Nature was just saving it all up for now.

Boy, I'm gonna miss this state.

NOT.

pahunkboy -> RE: "Northeast prepares for major storm" (4/15/2007 9:57:25 AM)

rain here. i think we missed it. yay

Lorelei115 -> RE: "Northeast prepares for major storm" (4/16/2007 11:24:16 AM)

Now its just fricken cold!

Woo hoo!!!!  Like 40s - 60s.... BEAUTIFUL.  Love it.

So much better then hot muggy humid heat

StellaByStarlite -> RE: "Northeast prepares for major storm" (4/16/2007 2:00:11 PM)

It's a windy day here at Lake StellaBeGone ( LOL! )

My poor seedlings.. that I have nurtured like they were my own green leggy children. Our last frost date is May 15th, but the way things are looking, I won't plant my babies until early June. Poop.
