You might justify SM activities--from your list, canes and crops, cbt, electrical play, needle play, spanking, and whips--just like you justify kissing and caressing. They are sensations that you and your partner (or one or the other of you) find pleasurable or fulfilling. Orgasm denial, if it's the short-term "tease and denial" variety, is a game that non-kinky people play. It can be titillating and fun. You might justify non-SM play activities, like fire play, or leashes and collars, or sensory deprivation, as non-sensation intimacy enhancement. Some people light candles and don attractive or comfortable clothing to help have enjoyable, time together--sexual time, or simply fulfilling time. You light backs and don restraints. You could read watersports or scat as either pleasing sensation or intimacy enhancement--neither is my thing, so I don't have a firm grasp on why people who enjoy them do them. Since you haven't addressed the question of inequal authority in a love relationship, but merely the question of nontraditional intimate activities, I'm not going to address it in my response. Different people understand affection and fun differently. To express affection and to have fun together, some people like to kiss, and others like to hit. It's an issue of intent. Monica
