I've noticed that Collarme uses the term "True Crime;" you can list this as something you "Live for" in your profile under interests and then diversions. After about a solid year, of noticing people do in fact "Live For" this, I started trying to debunk the meaning. At first, I thought this was an s/m slang for something, so I searched around the Internets for a definition and came to the conclusion that collarme really is referring to "True crime." By this I mean a "true" felony, or misdemeanor, etc. My guess is this would be the check box for you, if your idea of a good time was hooking up with an inmate for a kinky conjugal visit. Or, if "scening' meant robbing a 7/11.

I'm really not quite sure what to make of this, it has to be a non-simulation, because that option box sits right above it on the Diversions tab. ;) I was wondering if anyone can confirm my hairbrain speculation - or if they could clear this one up for me. I've had the question in my journal for a good while now, and I've had a lot of replies from woman across the spectrum asking if I could clear this up for them.

I always took it to mean nothing more than that a person had an interest in factual "true" crime stories.

I suspect it refers to enjoying reality shows about cops catching crooks, or something like that.

Hahahaha! [:D][:D] I never thought of it that way, I thought it meant mostly reading true crime novels, websites, etc. Scary to think how close it could get to reality, though, or that some might think of doing or participating in it, as an actual, real-life "hobby" -

and in that regard, in all seriousness, I am not saying it wouldn't pay to be cautious and use common sense as far as evaluating anyone's particular statements of their own "integrity" and "trustworthiness" on a case by case basis. 

And - considering some parts of bdsm activity are illegal in some places (if one considers things like "blue laws") that probably is true for some, even if they don't want it to be.

Thanks for the opportunity to clarify what I personally consider "true crime" on the Interests list at CM, to mean.

It's a legit question, IMO. I was just teasin' 'ya. *Nobody is gonna make you do anything that's non-consensual, in any case. So - just make sure you know what you are consenting to do, IMO.

Well that's what I thought at first, but "True" and "TV" kind of lead the imagination astray... So I guess it's "True Crime," and not TV Crime, because they're referring to COPS and not Reno 911?

I agree (and I used to do research) that the terminolgy could be confusing, and it is an intelligent question, IMO.

I just intuited that since there are things like the TOS (things that cannot be mentioned or talked about here - the "guidlelines" that prohibit talk of things like bestiality, and requests of financial domination/submission, etc.) - because they are illegal (or can skirt being it pretty closely) that there wasn't going to be anyone in CM managment promoting actual criminal activity by listing it as an legit personal Interest.

I can pretty much believe that is the case. But it's a smart question, it really is, IMO (in my opinion).

My best friend has a true crime hobby like no other I know.
She watches true crime stories on tv and in movies, and reads real crime books and book written by infamous people and biographies written about them.
She even studied and degreed in psychology and criminal law as it helped her desire to understand the mind of someone who could do these acts.
Hell she even wrote to Jeffery Domer & John Wayne Gacy (I'm not sure how to spell these names)to just name a couple of them and was pen pals to many people behind bars trying to understand their lives and perspectives.
I think her hobby was to help her with her paranoia and phobias of these sorts of events potentially happening to her and her driving desire to understand how these people could do such evil things.
I wouldn't have thought collarme meant doing crime yourself, but rather someone who was fascinated by it on this site.

I admit it.   I am a true crime fan.   I love true crime movies, drama programs, and let's not forget my favorite CourtTV, and Nancy Grace.

I sometimes read serial killer websites (about them, not made by them), and was for a brief time a CJ major in colllege. The last "true crime" website I read was about child killers, and the case of a kid named Mary Bell, in the UK, who murdered another kid at the age of 10 (the victim was a toddler).

It was fascinating, in terms of attempting to answer the" nature v s. lack-of-nurture" question and debate, re: The origins of these impulses, but reached no final conclusion, in that sense.  Still, for me, it was interesting reading, but I don't like to go what I consider "overboard" when I do it, because IMO it can sometimes be very depressing, too.

I believe it reffers to enjoying  things like court tv, cops, americas most wanted and nonfiction books about crimes

There is a True Crime section in your local Barnes and Noble. Why not walk in and check it out. You'll understand what is refered to a lot more.

I like true crime stuff.  Ann Rule, made for tv movies based on real crimes, American Justice, Forensic Files, City Confidential.  There is a ton of programming on tv related to crime, both fiction and non-fiction.

My first thought would be Ann Rule or Vincent Bugliosi (sp?) books.
