ORIGINAL: thetammyjo While it wasn't a book club per se I did have a top support group where we did a lot of reading. A good match to something like that is to get authors to talk to you or do online chats after you've read their book(s). I'd done that and I really liked hearing from readers and speaking to them. do you have any advice for getting in touch with authors, or key phrases i can use to gain their attention? the response so far is insane! i know not all will pan out but in just a few hours there have been 20 or so voiced interests just between CL and a post in a group called BOSTONBDSM on LJ See if you can find their website and contact them via email. Note that as much as you pay for a book, the author, the person who created it, is usually getting 5-10% only of that money. They aren't wealthy. Therefore your best bets are local or near local authors that you can offer gas money to and a good meal post the readings or discussion. If they can't drive home afterward you'd have to spring for a hotel or if they are trusting a spare room at your house and breakfast in the morning. Since this is a book club and everyone probably has the book all ready you can't offer them that they'd make many sells at the event so covering their costs is important. If you want to talk to them online just let them know and make it as convenient as possible for them. For example I did an online chat at the BRC back in January.
